This Friday is Cinco De Mayo! Don't feel like waiting in long lines at your favorite Mexican restaurant? Watered down margaritas not your thing? We're teaming up with Chef C's Munchie Mobile to celebrate, sombreros are optional! We'll be releasing a limited amount of our three tequila beers in bottles, and the Munchie Mobile will have a taco theme going on for the weekend (their menu is attached). All three beers will also be on tap. The Tap Room will open at 3 pm on Friday and Noon on Saturday, the Munchie Mobile will start serving at 5 pm on Friday and Saturday.

1. The Promise - an old ale brewed with brown sugar and aged in tequila barrels. $10 / 22 oz bottle, limit 2.

2. Bloody Sunrise - an imperial blonde ale brewed with agave and blood orange aged in tequila barrels. $10/22 oz bottle limit 1

3. El Ganador - an American stout brewed with coffee and cacao aged in tequila barrels. $10 / 22 oz bottle, limit 2.

From BA - first R&D is a sour porter, potentially the Olde English Porter from the Unplugged series.

Also, Raspberry Tart coming in 4pks.

Assume people on BA are getting this from the WSJbeerbaron tweet on Sunday. He's a legit journalist, so probably accurate.

R&D reveal! Two Historic brews! First- Dan’s personal favorite the 1870s Sour Porter! Black floor malted barley spontaneously fermented into luxuriously smooth sour. Oak aging lends a toasted finish to this historic beer revival. Second- a friendly Wisconsin- Belgium collaboration. Abtsolution! Brewmasters Dan and Dirk Naudts of De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi explore the Belgian ABT style. Wisconsin weighed in with Santium and Chinook hops. Happy cows contributed milk lactose to impart the velvety smoothness of this dark ale. Both ales are designed to enjoy today, or will evolve beautifully over next 1-2 years if you are that patient.

New later Release time! 10 a.m! Price increase! $15 per bottle! Daily limits 4 R&D Sour Porters and/or 2 Abtsolutions per person. Remember your valid Drivers License, it is required and is non negotiable. Due to construction, parking will be at the bottom of the hill. Finally, there will be food! Kennedy’s will be frying donut holes and Franks Franks will bring their tasty buns and dogs both Friday and Saturday. Stay and enjoy an evening of Polka Fest in the Village. Sorry, Saturday’s Beer Bacon Cheese Event is completely sold out.

released........... this weekend?

picked up a 6 4 pack of NG Berliner today. had no idea it was out. guess i should pay more attention.

Assume you are asking about the R&D stuff - release is june 9 and 10.

And Berliner just hit most shelves this week from what I can tell.

Not sure if I missed this, but New Glarus is phasing out Zwickel as their brewery only production for a blonde ale?

They were supposed to make Hometown Blonde the "brewery-only" beer this year. Have not heard of that actually happening yet. It's not a blonde ale though - it's a German-style Pilsener, and a great one in my opinion.

Are these available year-round? I was there in August last year and got a couple of packs of Zwickel, but they only had a case or so on the floor. I don't know if they were just low during that point, but I got the idea that it was seasonal brew (which it traditionally is as a style, right?).

I'm asking because I'll be in the area again this weekend and am deciding whether it's worth going significantly out of our way to get something I can't find at any store in the area. I LOVED the Zwickel and would go out of my way for it, but didn't think it would be available.

Based on Zwickel last year, they seemed to brew it whenever it fit it and when the Beer Depot was out. There were times when it wasn't available, but there were also times when there was cases piled high.

I know they are currently expanding the Beer Depot, and I'm sure that's affecting what's available right now.

I was up there last weekend, they had about half a pallet of Zwickel (from October 2016). From the discussion I had, they want to get rid of the Zwickel before the blonde gets released, but can't sell the Zwickel fast enough so everything is just sitting.

I was a little disheartened to hear about the replacement, but now I'm incredibly excited.

I think people just ruined a beautiful thing at the R&D release. Shouting loudly over beer.

Wondering if you mean people talking over Dan Carey while he was explaining the beers?

Didn't happen much towards the front, but I noticed it a bit more when he went through the sour porter explanation towards the back.

Edit - still a half palate of zwickel.

I think people were just drinking and didn't notice, it was sad they talked over him in the smaller crowd though.

Even New Glarus is not immune to shitheads.

Story?
Was in the forest-y area in the back (post-release), some guys yelling about some trade that either fell through or didnt happen and eventually had to be escorted out by staff.

sorry for partying?

we were hanging out in the new (?) shaded grassy area but i heard the commotion. couldn't quite tell what was going on though.

I was standing right there and I'm not really sure what happened. The overly drunk guy was just lucky the other guy didn't jack him in the mouth when he was yelling **** you right in his face.

Lowest turnout I can remember for a R&D beer. Someone popped a bottle of the Sour Porter and it was quite nice. Almost like an Oud Bruin with a little bit of chocolate malt.
