"Saturday midday drinking in GB: suggestions? Titletown, Hinterland, Stillmank, Leatherhead?"

never been to Leatherhead. what i've heard of it, could be way off base, is that the owners were the people who said "hey, people are making money on beer... let's open a beer... place!"

don't know anyone who has been there so not fair to have an opinion one way or another, i suppose. it's near Badger State and the "stadium district" so maybe worth a pop in if you're over that way. personally i'd just drink Badger State beers. there's a TV on the wall, couple couches, tables, board games and outdoor beer garden that may/may not be open pending weather.

Titletown, Hinterland, Hagemeister are all downtown on the river. within walking distance of each other. each serves food of varying levels. Titletown is surprisingly good. reasonably priced. beer is just so-so for my money. cool local experience, i think as it's in an old railroad station that's a part of local history.

Hinterland is high-end dining, doesn't open until late afternoon. you can pop in for elk steak and a pint but walk out $50 lighter. better beer than Titletown.

Hagemeister is a sort of sports/upscale bar without all the sports shlock but with TV's everywhere. decent menu. lots of beer to choose from. indoor/outdoor with fireplace outside. we like this place in summer but it gets packed on a nice afternoon.

Stillmank is off the beaten path. not really near any other Packers or beer related destinations. small place. i've only been there once. of their beers so far i've only really liked Perky Porter. would probably pass on visiting this one in favor of the others.


-Saturday dinner and football on TV: suggestions? Any of the aforementioned brewpubs if they have food and a good TV setup. Or 1919 or Ned Kelly's? I'd say the priority here is the TV setup for football, then food (nothing fancy, the fried stuff will suffice), and then the availability of good beer.

1919 is inside Lambeau. we haven't been there since it was Curly's. nice space. food was just ok. overpriced.

Saturday dinner & football i'd probably lean Hagemeister. i have young kids so combining those two things on a Saturday evening isn't something we do..... ever.

Ned Kelly's is just a bar. not sure on the tv situation but that's also right up the street from Hagemeister.


-Saturday late night drinks: totally open here. Guess a good tap-list would be the main thing, but we probably won't be too picky after a long day.

depending on where you're staying, assuming close to the stadium or downtown, you've got a few options.

Stadium District on Holmgren Way there's Anduzzi's, Stadium View and The Bar. right there you also have Badger State, Leatherheads and Burkel's (bar). usually a pretty popular area the night before and day of a game.

downtown - Washington Street has a handful of bars. the highlight, i think, is probably The Libertine. more of a cocktails place but also has good beer. right up the block from Ned Kelly's and Hagemeister. there's a taco place on this street named Vintage that's 2 levels, has decent beer options and good tacos. on that block is Al's Hamburger. recently underwent a chance in ownership but has been a GB institution since the 30s. great burger. used to only be open until 2 PM. now open late in to the night on the weekends.


-Sunday pregame: Brett Favre Steakhouse all-you-can-eat/drink tailgate. We did this 8 years ago the last time the Texans were in town, so we want to run it back for posterity/simplicity/location.

you're already pretty familiar with the area if you were here 8 years ago. not much changed. Badger State is directly behind Favre's. Anduzzi's across the street from Stadium View has expanded. a new Hilton went up on Lombardi. everything west of the stadium has been bulldozed but not yet replaced... next time you come back it will be Xanadu.


-Sunday postgame food/drinks: open for suggestions here, too. One of the taprooms we missed, as long as they have food? Something else?

Sunday post-game is pretty slim pickings. this town rolls up the carpets on Sunday. my recommendations would be the same. stick around the stadium, that's where the action will be. there's a structure in the parking lot with tv's, a band, bars, etc. not sure how late that goes post-game. i'd stick around the stadium and party.


if you and your crew are gamblers, there's the Oneida Bingo & Casino near the airport. full Vegas style gambling. don't let Bingo confuse you. it's pretty nice. busy. lots of people seem to enjoy it.

we also have (alas, only one anymore) a full nude strip club - The Oval Office - on Main Street.

We're very familiar with The Bar -- we stayed 2 blocks from there last time and did the vast majority of our drinking there. We may or may not have visited The OO, too. Gonna leave Saturday late night open. Those last two sentences are probably not related.

oh, i forgot to add, Badger State allows food deliveries/carry-ins, etc. they have some bar snacks but that's it.

Alright folks, it is time....so many have been asking, and we have the details for the 19th Central Waters Anniversary party ready to go!

This will not be a lottery system for the tickets, they will go on sale on Sunday, December 11 at 6pm sharp via Brown paper Tickets. These went very fast last year, so if you are interested, we suggest you be online promptly and ready to purchase that ticket at 6 pm on December 11.

This year, tickets are $15 each, and you get two tickets good for a pour of any beer on tap except the anniversary beer. The remainder of your ticket price goes to charity! You may purchase up to 2 tickets, but please only get 2 if you will use them, leave more for others!

As always, we will open the doors to the public at 3 pm sharp, with as many of our beers on tap as we can muster up! Live music by Art Stevenson and Highwater and Sloppy Joe, and food for sale from local food vendors round out this amazing brewery experience.

A few changes from last year:

Only one type of ticket this year, first come first served via Brown Paper Tickets.

Tickets go on sale Sunday, December 11 2016 at 6 pm.

Tickets are $15 each, you may purchase 2 per person.

This ticket grants you entrance into the brewery as well as the ability to purchase up to 6 bottles of 19 at $15 each. You will also receive 2 tickets good to redeem 2 pours of any beer on tap EXCEPT the anniversary beer. The remaining ticket price will be donated to charity.

Again, every ticket is also a ticket to have the ability to purchase the anniversary beer.

One ticket per person, no proxies.

As you enter the building, your ticket will be scanned to remove it from the system, thereby preventing multiple uses. You will receive your 2 tickets for beer pours here. You will keep your ticket upon entering, and give this ticket to the folks manning the anniversary beer sales area if you choose to purchase bottles. Again, only one ticket per person. We will take this ticket from you when you purchase your bottles, preventing people from buying twice on one ticket.

Anniversary Beer sales will be open from 3 pm until 7 pm. After 7 pm, all remaining bottles will become first come, first served.

The event ends at 9 pm sharp.

SHUTTLES:
We will once again be running shuttles from 4 locations in Stevens Point (Guus on Main, Comfort Suites, Econolodge and Holiday Inn). Shuttles will run from 2:30 until everyone is out of the building after 9 pm. These are free, so please treat your drivers well and be respectful.

Y'all, just wanted to say thanks again for all the MKE/GB recs. We had an absolute blast, and y'all nailed everything. Couple of notes:

MKE
-Wolskis is super cool. Proper old-school tavern with good taps and the nicest bartender ever.
-Lakefront Fish Fry was awesome. Food was great, atmosphere was very fun, and the beers are solid.
-Stubby's didn't have much atmosphere, but it appeased the sports-bar side of the crew while also supplying a good taplist.
-Burnhearts is awesome. I regret we only spent an hour there. Next time I'd camp out all day.

GB
-Titletown beers are decent and the taproom is very cool. Spent a few hours there Saturday afternoon.
-Hagemeister was PERFECT for our Saturday night dinner/sports/etc. TV setup is great -- we had a booth for 9 people, relatively private/enclosed, with 3 TVs inside the booth. Beer list was good -- not great, but more than passable.
-Badger State is making some killer beers. I was extremely impressed. It's another place I'd love to camp out for a long while.

With the announcement that Tom Petty will be headlining 2 days of Summerfest (July 5/6) y'all can count on me flying out that week.

I see the Brewers are in town too.

The principals in two Madison-area brewing operations have joined for a new brewery that will release its first beer this week.

Untitled Art was formed earlier this year by Levi Funk, who runs Funk Factory Geuzeria on Madison’s South Side, and Isaac Showaki, who opened Octopi Brewing in Waunakee last year.

Funk said he will provide the creative direction on the beer — formulating recipes and sourcing ingredients — while Showaki brings his expertise in production and bringing beer to market. The beer will be made 50 barrels (the equivalent of 100 kegs) at a time by the staff at Octopi, which is a so-called contract brewery that primarily makes beer for other companies.

The new project is distinct from their two existing operations, Funk said.

Funk said Untitled Art will not have a bricks-and-mortar brewery or a large staff. That low overhead will give Funk and Showaki the freedom to brew what they want, when they want, Funk said. They won’t use a middleman to sell or distribute the beer, either.

That way, “there’s no demand on Untitled Art to produce,” Funk said. “It’s not like we’re paying to keep the lights on or pay the rent on a facility. I want to keep that freedom of no production demands.”

Untitled Art will sell its beer at bottle shops, bars and restaurants in Madison and Milwaukee, and the first beer, Juicy IPA, was packaged last week and should ship out on Thursday or Friday, Funk said. Four-packs of the bottles will carry the premium price of $15.

The brewery concept came out of a desire to drink beer styles Funk described as at the “leading edge” of modern brewing that aren’t being made by breweries in Wisconsin or the Midwest. Juicy IPA is a variant of the India pale ale that’s gained a passionate following among beer fans in the Northeast.

Funk’s Funk Factory has built a strong national reputation among fans of sour beer since he released his first beer in January 2014. Funk Factory does not brew beer but takes wort — beer before it’s fermented — made at collaborating breweries and ages it in used barrels, a process that can take up to 18 months.

Before opening Octopi in 2016 and launching Octopi’s 3rd Sign label a month later, Showaki co-founded 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, a Latin-style brewery in Chicago, in 2011.

Good City is worth visiting. Brenner is a hard pass.

Good City - good beer, good food, cool space - definitely worth checking out
Company Brewing - same as above
Urban Harvest - good beer, really cool space, no food.
Third Space - haven't been
Brenner - meh

If you like hops definitely add the new Black Husky brew pub to your list. Really cool place, close to Company Brewing.

Also if possible check out Raised Grain.

Third Space and Good City are both solid. I can't vouch for Company or Urban Harvest, but if you check out Company, Black Husky is in the neighborhood and worth your time as previously mentioned. Avoid Mobcraft and Brenner like the plague.

They've never had a draft list that made me want to go there and the prices always seem to be $1 - $3 too much.

I like the atmosphere at D&V, and it's on my way home from work. But I agree that the tap list is generally above average, but not great, and the prices might be a little higher than other places.

Since it's getting close, figured I'd throw my hat in the ring. Half my family missed out on CW Anni tickets since they're not use to how fast beer fest tickets sell out these days.
If anyone has any extras and interested in passing them on for cost, let me know. We don't need anymore bottles beyond the 4 tickets we already have. They just want to attend the party with the rest of us like we have been doing each year. I'm sure we can work something out there so you can still get the 6 bottle alottment if you would like. Looking for 2-3 tickets.
Happy to do a GPIUFM for any non-FIBs that take me up on this also.
