Anyone try MT's Countermagic IPA? I think it's been on tap since Tuesday and I know the League sale starts today. Just curious if anyone has strong opinions on it one way or the other.

"Up front disclosure - I haven't really been in love with most beers I've had using cryo lupulin powder (for example, When Doves Cryo smelled like rotting fish to me), so your mileage may vary on this one.

Initial impression is that it's really green, which is pretty unavoidable since I'm guessing it was packaged yesterday morning or Monday afternoon. I'm a bit torn on even posting a review because it'll probably evolve and improve substantially in 72 hours. Consider this a review of where it is now, rather than what it's likely to be from a can.

Aroma is dank and resinous, not really getting much of the tropical fruit aspect that the Citra dry hopping should deliver. Palate is more in the direction I'd expect with some tropical fruit and citrus stepping up front, backed by pine. Mouthfeel is moderately dry, not fully West Coast but not as pillowy as a lot of the recent releases and more bitterness than I prefer from a hazy IPA. Overall, strikes me as a bit of a hybrid IPA, some hazy character but some aspects that harken back to West Coast days of yore. I'm enjoying it for what it is now that I'm halfway through the pint, so managing expectations is key with this one."

Feeling a little thirsty so I thought I'd grab a pint during lunch. Bring up Yelp to search for breweries near Mira Mesa, and holy ****, the amount of new, completely unknown breweries around here is staggering.

Worse yet are the reviews that are just gushing about the products. It's one thing to have good beer; it's another to have reviews that sound like self-indulgent circle-jerks.

Anyone ever heard of them?

Yup, nestled right there by 2Kids and Align...with Setting Sun on the backside of the building and Thunderhawk across the street. Also you are now just over a mile from my house at that brewery...so obligatory TFTI

I kind of wonder if there will be a price war at some point. Maybe all that competition will lead to some better pint prices.

Major props to Battlemage Brewing for opening up with $5 pints.
Yeah, this is pretty much the main reason I don't drink outside of homes and bottleshares anymore. I decided against a beer at lunch because I didn't want to pay 7.50 per pint.

When I can go to Disneyland and buy a pint of Karl Strauss for only a dollar more than that, there's a problem.

You all are sleeping on Home Brew Co. Stoped by The Homebrewer to get grain and tried 4 beers. Did care for the imperial stout but the SMaSH ale with Centennial and Vermont ale yeast, pils, and brown with C&T coffee were all great.
The anniversary saison they did with 32 North was solid. Sharks with Blazers, I think it was called. A little sweeter than I would have liked, but really good regardless.

Magnetic Brewing bites the dust per West Coaster.

Arrived at 4pm. Didn't enter till 440. Two whole bartenders for this mess. 20min and counting to get my second beer.

Yeah the lines to get beer are ridiculous. Taking around a solid 20+mins to get to the bar. Event needs like at least double the staff; was a lot more efficient last year.
