OldMetalGuy Makes anywhere on the 1/2/3 A/C/E a possibility. If you don’t mind walking from herald square you’ll have even more options.

I don't understand any of what you said, sorry

Stay in Manhattan, you'll regret the travel otherwise, especially if the concert is on a weekend. jammery is right though, airbnb is often very cheap.

I just can't see spending 300,400,500+ per night for a room I won't be in much... I'm not that rich

looking outside that zone, it turns into this:

i'm hampered by not knowing anything about public transportation there. at this point, I'd be happy finding a place "next" to a bus/subway/train stop that would drop me off / pick me up near MSG.. at 11pm or later after the concert, i don't want to be wandering around lost

I get that there is a correlation between ease of ingress / egress and cost

when i rode the train in from newark, it was miraculous that i figured out where to go, which level, which track, how to buy a ticket in NJ Penn

once i got into town, i wanted to go to to the old FAO store (is it really gone forever?), I luckily wandered into the right subway station, and the very nice attendant guided me to which train letter / track and what stop to look for.

in all seriousness, if one believes the people / news reports from where I live (western pa), if you ask people for help / directions in nyc, you will be ignored, told wrong or just followed and mugged.. I'm not making this up. people were dumbfounded when i told them about it all

Most people in NYC are honestly happy to help if you ask for directions. Nobody is just gonna be an ******* for no reason. Second the Airbnb talk. When exactly are these shows? I'm sure the people here can put their heads together and find you a solid spot

Looks like Clapton is playing MSG on the 6th & 7th of October...which isn't too far away, especially when booking a NYC room.

The 1-2-3 and A-C-E are both nearby subway lines OldMetalGuy . On the 1-2-3 line, the 34th st - Penn Station stop is very close to MSG. So, you can hop on that and ride uptown a handful of stops to inexpensive options. I found a good option with a private room and high ratings near the 157th st. stop in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood.

With the fees, tax, should be under a $100 a night. Currently available for the those 2 nihhts Clapton is playing. It would be a 20 minute direct ride station to station. And the area is safe, just not filled with touristy attractions. But I always find it enjoyable to see the outskirts, edges of a major city in addition to it's main attractions. Have a great stay in New York. !

Hey all... going to be in the city this weekend (Sat and Sun nights) and staying at the Hilton Midtown, which is at 6th and 54th. Any good spots that are reasonably close where i can grab some beers after the wife & kids are in bed? I am not all that familiar with this area of the city. Most of my recent ventures have been lower Manhatten (i.e., blind tiger/one mile house) or in Brooklyn. I plan on doing the normal beermenues/untappd searches, but would welcome any recommendations.

As Is and The Jeffrey are both about a mile away and they should both have good taplists.

As axeman9182 said, As Is and The Jeffrey are great options. As Is is one of if not the best beer bar in the city these days. City Hops and Milk and Hops UES are also decent options, both very close to The Jeffrey.

Bondurants, my favorite bar in the city, is also a 15 minute trip via the Q train from Lex/63 to 86th street. Always a great tap list, huge and mostly reasonably priced whiskey selection, and very solid food.

Going to Citi field tomorrow. Got super cheap tickets in the upper deck. anyone know if you can move to a better section if the place is empty? Or do they check tickets for every section?

Also, how's the beer scene there, both in and around the park? Will have my 15 year old with me...

Mikkeller has a bar/brewery right at the stadium that will have a fantastic taplist. Didn't explore too much inside the stadium, but what I saw was solid.

What Axeman said, def hit Mikkeller before or after the game. Inside the stadium, there are good options at certain "Craft Beer" stands. Big Apple Brews in the Upper deck pavilion is not one of them. If you are in the upper deck, go to the 3rd base side, just around home plate and there is a stand there.

Tilquin Pinot Noir and Gris dropped in NYC last few days. Snagged a Gris last Friday ($43 ugh) and a Noir just now at Carmine St Beers ($25). Good luck
Hoping that some will come by in the suburbs as well.

No clue. Hearing most places only got 6 Noir.

yeah, generally tilquin 750's come in 6 bottle cases. Mure did. Unless 12% got all crazy with it, maybe they have another spot and only 1 account got em so they split between the 2 stores.

Did some hunting today and ended up with a couple Pinot Noir, no Pinot Gris found this week other than missing out on Clinton Gourmet.

I spoke to a beer buyer at one spot and he said that the latest drop was quite the fiasco because 12 Percent typically allocates these beers to specific accounts but mistakenly put the stock into inventory. Apparently, a number of stores in Jersey ended up getting a lot of the Pinot Gris, which shut out a lot of NYC. Again, just hearsay, but based on the number of spots I've been to in the last week would indicate that there might be some truth to this. Who knows.
