Well, I'll be pounding 14% stouts, regardless of temperature, because I am a sack of ****
And none of them on nitro this year, right? So much viscous goodness (I'm also looking forward to irresponsible high octane consumption in the sun).

Going to Dankness this year with MrsBenzo!

Oh wow, you are leaving the North County / Canada ???

Only the league member pour is on nitro this year.

I hear Ice pours don't count towards your 10 tickets

100% not true, but one can dream
You really had me for a moment. Which session are you doing?

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're just that dedicated!

I'm sure he of all people could find a way around that. ;)

Anniversary party was really well done I bet session two was a little bit better as it seemed to be cooling off a little as we were leaving session one. Ice Radler was bomb! I told Derek they need to can that and he said that keg was third most expensive to make for the event. They did both juice and zest from the pink grapefruit and it really showed!

Side question anyone have tasting notes from Friday night?

That was a pretty fun time. Great space, never felt too crowded, and I didn't notice any folks that were too out of control wasted, which was a surprise from the past couple of years. Agreed on the ice radler, that was delicious and must've been a great treat during the first session with the heat. Really enjoyed the pistachio devils teeth, that and the walnut variant have been my favorite high abv adjuncty offerings from them in recent memory.

Tasting notes from Friday night:
Monsters' Park Aged in St. Croix Rum Barrels - 4.25 - Spent just over a year in barrels. Big aroma of fudgy dark chocolate, some moderate dark fruits, slightly tart cherries, bits of raisin. Very light on the palate, again big dark chocolate, lightly bitter cocoa, molasses, long finish of dark tropical fruits. Passion fruit, cherries, and light spices. Balanced sweetness.

Monsters' Park Aged in St. Croix Rum Barrels w/ Cinnamon & Allspice - 4 - Nose of cinnamon over the fudgy chocolate of the base beer, with the spice complementing the fruit aspects nicely. Palate opens with dark fruits and chocolate before the spice builds into a dominant finish. Enjoyable, but I think the adjuncts muted some of the barrel notes without doing to enhance the beer.

Transit of Venus - 4.5 - Markedly better out of the bottle than on draft. Nose is lightly tart with moderate funk, earthy, barnyardy, lightly floral. Moderate citrusy tartness on the palate with nice earthy funk and light rye spice floating around. Very light on the palate, crushable but complex. A lot of people have commented over the years that San Diego doesn't have anyone going hard in the farmhouse style - if Modern Times continues to refine and tweak this formula, I think they have a real winner in that space.

Wizard & Graf - 4 - Just under 50% Wickson apple juice/just over 50% grisette. 100% amphora aged, then into second use red wine barrels. Nose is quite funky with some light tartness and fruit character. Palate of light to moderate tartness, moves into mineral character, apple skin sort of character and light funk, before a long, citrusy/apple finish. I wasn't sure what to think at first but it grew on me with each sip.

Cross-posted this on BA as well:

Due to this month's BPT sale timing being different, I wanted to give you all a reminder that the email with full sale details will be sent out tomorrow with the actual sale beginning on Tuesday at 10am.

On another note, thanks to everyone who made it out to the party yesterday! I'd be curious to see some people rank their top-3 favorite beers at the event.

Cheers,

Steven Michael
League Coordinator

My top three is no order...
Ice Radler
School of certain victory
Super cuvee

Thanks for throwing a great party as always!

I was surprised how much I liked the one with Matcha. Maybe not my favorite of the event but the one I found most interesting.

It's good, I've already gone through a 4-pack. Not the best pils available right now but definitely solid. A bit more bitter than I'd prefer.

Those of you who were fond of Toolbox's early kettle sours should probably give Modern Times' Star Metal some attention. If you told me it was fruit juice rather than beer, I wouldn't argue. On draft now at the Fermentorium and public can sale is Sunday.

(yeah, yeah, I'm the local MT shill...the beer is ******* great though. Freshly packaged so it needs a few days to really hit its stride but it's already damn nice)

I have not liked their berliners previously because of that wheaty / bread / grainy thing on the end. Any of that in this one?

There's a hint of that grainy character but the fermentation profile is quite clean, definitely cleaner than their prior efforts.
