Ever been in an older Chicago house or apartment before? Whatever chandeliers used to be in the center of the room are long gone, maybe replaced with a decorative finial that has been painted over at least 10 times if you're lucky, and so you're left to light your room with many floor and table lamps tucked in here and there. Those table lamps are usually sitting on a low end table, with the shade directing light to the floor (maybe lighting the armrest of the couch, if you're lucky). As such, I noticed the same thing as you, but thought to myself "yep, seems about right."

Here's a trick for you all that have the same problem. Grab the wife/significant other/friend's phone and turn the flash light on. Position overhead and to the side to get nice angled light on the subject (beer).
