there is a huge difference between being able to afford a beer and thinking it is worth the price.
I love his quote where he compares his beer to a Ferrari and says we want KIA prices, umm no Al a KIA cost about 1/10 of a Ferrari; we are not saying your beer should cost $3.30 most feel the $20-25/30 range is right. And I think we can all be honest if what he produced was close to a Cantillon(Ferrari) level we would pay $33. But his last batch was very hit or miss in quality, similar to buying a Chevy;)

Good god holy ******* **** THIS. It's amazing how people frequently do not understand this.

Right, but don't you think there's more and more of that these days, which is a problem? (Beers that aren't worth their price?) I think Pizza Boy is a prime example, but there are plenty of other unknown breweries on shelves that are asking way too much for their unproven product.

Yeah, it's widespread for sure. I stopped buying a lot of stuff bc I finally started thinking "hey, is it really worth $20-50 to try this?" For the far majority of the time, the answer is a resounding "NO."

Same goes with draft beer - I come across things here all the time that I want to try, but on many occasions I'm far more satisfied by a $4-5 pint of fresh IPA than a $8.50 thimble of gin barrel-aged dark saison with ginger root and fiddlehead ferns.

You think there's any chance intangible ales can go solo? That's Terry's solo project, yes?

Interesting that PB pulled all the related posts from Facebook, so there is no reference to the posts anyone made at all.

I wonder how many customers they lost by complaining and how many customers they gained by defending their high prices.... what do people think is the ratio on that? 2:1? 5:1? 10:1? Too bad you can't divide by 0 since nobody likes a complainer and the people who are defending them are people who already shop there anyway.

Personally, I've always wanted to try PB sours but I thought they were a bit on the pricey side... after this fiasco... no thanks.... I'll buy my cheaper Drie Fonteinen/Tilquin instead.

I had a few of my CA trade partners already say they want me to go get them some Blackberry and raspberry sours. Because of this. I bet it will make them all sell now.

These might be the same people dropping $40-$60 dollars on Lost Abbey beers. Probably seems like a 'sale'.

I'm not sure if Lancaster counts as Central Pa but I'm gonna be going to a wedding on Friday, July 31st. We'll be leaving the Bronx in the morning and will have the afternoon to try to visit some breweries. We may also have some time Saturday before we head home.

Can anyone offer up where I should try to head? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about breweries nearby, but can definitely recommend Hunger-n-Thirst for lunch. Really delicious food and usually some good beers on tap or in bottles.

Lancaster breweries:
Wacker Brewery -Thistlefinch distillery is connected to them if you like spirits
Lancaster Brewing Co., not the best beers but a cool place with awesome food
Springhouse Taproom, it's the pub for all their beers

Short distance:
St. Boniface about 20 minutes away in Ephrata
Liquid Hero in York about 30 minutes (They have some decent IPAs)
Troegs is about 40 mintures (Im not a fan of their beers but the food is awesome)
Pizzaboy 45-50 minutes (if you drive like a NY'er, probably the only notable brewery to travel out of the city for)

Federal taphouse has about 100 beers on tap & i'd head to the Fridge too, best bottle shop in the city (they offer drafts and growler fills with a designated tap for Tired hands). Remember that Pa beer distro is a lot different than most states so if you want anything less of a case for take home you have to stick to certain shops. The city is pretty cool, have fun!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write that out. I think that's plenty to work with and I appreciate your help. I'll let you know how it goes!

In 2 days the new spring house brewery opens on Hazel street. I havent really kept up to date on the details but its my understanding this new location will have a 2,000 sq ft area dedicated to a pub/restaurant.

Looks like that's gonna be on the list of stops then!

People seem to be loosing their minds over BBA sunny side up. Wish I could have made it down to grab a crowler, oh well. Any one get there and try it? Thoughts?

Do you know if it's still on? I'm heading out that way this morning for a wedding and might be able to convince the group to travel a lil further since we were just planning on visiting Troegs before settling in Lancaster for the night.

It was still on last night when I was there. They don't have any more crowlers but they will fill other 1L growlers.

Pizza Boy muted my voice on facebook after I took a picture in their establishment giving two thumbs down next to a 4oz pour of CBS. They advertised "NO Growler fills" but never once mentioned I would be limited to a single 4oz pour. I seen several people at table's around me with more than one draft. Apparently people were muling them? I think Al and his wife just clearly have favorites.

They are doing limits on pours now too? WTF?

They just seemed super overwhelmed when I was there Wednesday, and I think truly had no idea what they had gotten themselves into. They probably should have limited the # of crowlers per person that day to lower than 6. I got enough to keep myself happy, but it was pretty crazy there.

They did decrease the size of the pour on CBS from 8oz to 4oz.

Wednesday was a **** show and it took well over an hour to get my fills. Thursday the line was longer but it took only 2-4 minutes as they prefilled crowlers.

If I recall correctly they were serving 8oz pours of CBS for the first few minutes. They quickly realized it wouldn't last very long so they decider to limit it to 4oz pours so more people could try it. If people had multiple pours they were trying to get more than their fair share. I heard multiple staff members at Als tell people it was 1 per person. People that paid cash could have potential gotten more than one poor because there wouldn't be a record of it on a tab.

I seen several people at tables around me with two 4oz glasses or an 8oz. I was offended considering the limits weren't announced at all and I drove over an hour to get there. I honestly would have just stayed home instead of getting a crappy 4oz pour. I've been pretty much done with Pizza Boy since after that ********.

I wouldn't have drove down for an 8oz pour either. Like I said. It was advertised "no growler fills" so I thought I would surly be able to get at least one full draft. However that wasn't the case. I really dont drink beer 4oz's at a time ever....

So how mad would you have been at them if they were allowing full pours (which would be 8 oz. in this case) and you drove an hour to get one and it was all gone, because there were no limits and people were getting full pours? Or would that have been OK? Maybe you could have went somewhere else that didn't have a limit on the pours and drank more. Oh wait...

They didn't put a limit on BA Sunny Side Up, if that is what you were asking.

There were plenty of CBS tappings down in the philadelphia area which didn't limit their customers to a single 4oz pour.
