Thats just dirty old fashioned capitalism.. My problem is when it gets into politics.. The bmc lobby here in the south is wealthy enough and politicians are corrupt enough that the beer laws are slanted heavily in favor of the big guys.

Its illegal for breweries to serve beer to patrons in this state. They are required by law to sell it to a distributor first, then buy it back before serving it.

Unless they sell $4 tours with a free 12 oz sample.

That's how it is in NC except they can have tasting rooms. Can't sell food there .

If you don't like it, don't buy it. Buy what you like and support the breweries you like. Seems pretty simple to me.

I have no hate for the big 3...But I do despise the way our government set up and has allowed just a few licensed distributors to rule the roost. That is what hurts micro breweries the most, the inability to market their beer locally and beyond...its about shelf /Tap space and who controls that.. not the big 3 buying them up.

As an example..we had a neighborhood pub change owner ship...The new owner wanted to bring in his own choices of craft beer.. The Distributor told him if he did they would pull all their beer from him. He stuck to his guns and did what he wanted to do. I think they came back to him later and said Ok we will supply you our beer offerings too again if you want us to. The only reason he did is there was lots of loyalty to those brands and it pissed people off at first when he no longer had them and his business suffered.

He cut my beer from his line up however and hasent replaced it with anything comparable so I dont patronize the place much any more...too bad for me, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I brewed a Pre-Pro Pils this afternoon and sipped on some Banquets. And nobody died!

What's with this? Another bashing thread on BMC. Great, you've saved us. We didn't know that there are other beer choices out there. How can I ever repay you? Don't buy it, don't drink it, don't keep bringing up how you don't like it.

At the homebrew scale, try adjusting the big boy's 70:30 barley:adjunct ratio to 90:10 and brew away.

Guess what, if you got the chops, it will be a damn fine beer. No, you wont be blown away by subtle nuances of stone fruit and ester, and your buddies won't be jealous of your ability to clone (insert fancy beer here). But it will taste great with pizza or wings or be refreshing after yard work.

If you got the chops...

It's incredibly popular with corporations, and why not? It allows for oligopolies. It's one of the biggest problems with the country. It's why Comcast was the only option for internet in my previous residence, even though I lived in the middle of a metropolitan area of 2 million people. Yet ****ty Comcast was the only option I had. It's why there are mainly only 4 airline companies, mainly only four cell phone companies, and a severely limited choice of internet options per area (with only about seven national corporations, oftentimes only one or two in a single area).

In a way, though, I see it as capitalism not working since it doesn't give the consumer the ability to choose because the huge corporations have taken that choice away from the consumer. In the Comcast example, I literally did not have any other option, even though I hate Comcast with a passion. At least with beer, even if the super market and local liquor store only have BMC products, I can probably find a place somewhere else that has the craft beers I want to buy. And at the current moment I live in an area with a decent number of local breweries and beer bars, so those options at least exist here. So, beer certainly isn't the worst example of this oligopoly issue.

If you don't agree, though, we'll just leave it at that. We don't agree. :mug:

The blame should go towards crony governments stifling competition. The U.S. hasn't had true capitalism for decades. The cronyism just continues.

Anyway, as a homebrewer I guess I'm not concerned with the beer market. None of them can really rely on me being a consistent customer.

If you don't like BMC products, that's fine. No one is holding a gun to your head to make you buy or drink anything they make. Millions of people like and want to buy BMC products. I want BMC drinkers to be happy and enjoy themselves. Cheers, :mug:

Suddenly Coors light appeals to me.:D

I personally would like them to fire up the way back machine & brew their original recipes from when they first started brewing & getting popular. It wasn't until the 20th century that they started thinning them down to appeal to women so they'd buy'em too. That'd be cheaper than buying up craft breweries. Would definitely be better beer against the craft offerings of today.

Several major breweries have released the old recipes. I know Stroh's has gone back, and Michelob has their "Original Lager". That one brings back the memories from when I was a teenager and my friend and I would sneak bottles and head off to the barn to drink 'em and shoot stuff with the BB gun.

And here I thought it was just me? :D Old recipe for Stroh's? Do you mean the blue cans/labels of today? Tastes a bit different than when they had the old, Bohemian style lager label ( like Shawshank Redempsion). Dang spell checker quit?...along with left click in reply mode? Anyway, the hops are a bit more floral than I remember?...

Maybe you have a virus;)

WTF. You want me to mix my own Cheladas? Normy don't think so. Not to mention I can't make enough blonde to fill the void. BMC is needed.
