Catching up. These were from a quiet night a few days ago.

I first heard the Sea and Cake on a BMX VHS tape years and years ago. I'm not sure how to describe their sound other than a kind of jazzy 90's indie sound? Maybe Karateish? A fantastic band and super chill record. That Great Divide beer is basically a mellow rye whiskey.

I spent a few years hanging around Lawrence, KS and I remember the Appleseed Cast and related projects were really active. Small and memorable shows.

From tonight,

Since hearing Marble Index I've become really curious about Nico. This Pannepeut is more or less dead. Basically still and thinned out at this point. Still retains a sour cherry/red wine bite.

That Nico/old ass Pannepeut combo was dreary and weird. I needed something more uplifting before calling it a night. The recording on this album is amazing. So loaf eye and shambling. Open to other recommendations of weirdo rock albums similar to this period of Link Wray. I heard that Avery almost went out of business recently. As a brewery that was on shelves when I first got into craft beer that made me sad. This brown ale is super dialed in, and way more enjoyable than whatever hazy shenanigan Evil Twin cans I normally end up buying.

NICE! Love those guys...

Had a feeling that you would be saying something like that. Next up is another album that is up there with Minor Threat and both Neutral Milk Hotel albums for albums that I could listen to almost every day. Beer makes me wish this were summer and/or I knew who did the good pilsners in Pittsburgh. Beer & Vinyl: Winter Series can get to be a bit too much sometimes...

Don't care what anyone thinks, the acoustic country-westerny version of Jocko Homo that leads this album off is one of the best album intros ever. Still kills me that they don't get the respect that they deserve. I got to see them for free in Boston several years ago because ticket sales were super low and the promoter didn't want them playing in front of a mostly empty venue. ******* amazing show.

The Fear portion of The Decline... is mind blowing.
