Melt Banana / Big D and The Kid's Table split. Melt Banana covers Monkey Man by Toots and The Mayatals, Big D covers Thieves by Ministry, in addition to one original by each band. I would pay good money to see Big D do an entire Ministry cover set.

Since we are recommending records and I have most everything available from this artist so this code is no good for me:

Quote in case the FB post doesn’t display:
Through 12/21, use code "VeryLateCapitalism" at http://gabrielkahane.bandcamp.com to get 20% off everything in the store, plus you'll get a free helping of *existential dread*.

N.B. (Existential dread included only while supplies last.)

I highly recommend both the Ambassador and Book of Travelers. Craigslistleoder is digital only but will make you laugh.

How is this record? How would you compare to other Ty Segal stuff?

I need to give it another listen when I'm not being distracted to really form a coherent opinion on it. Haven't actually listened to a ton of Ty Segall (really just this and Freedom's Goblin) so I'm definitely not the best to compare it to his other work. That said, I liked the two songs that they released early enough to pull the trigger on a pre-order and I enjoyed the first listen through.

Been wondering where you've been hiding.
I mostly listen to records when I'm alone in the house. Ever since my sister-in-law got hit by a car I haven't had so much of that. She's fine, but I feel less so. Without some alone time I have difficulty finding proper emotional balance, so to speak. Plus she annoys the hell out of me, it's like bad habits and poor decisions took human form and laid siege to my living room.

Makes total sense. If you can't tell by my posting habits, most of my listening is after kids and wife are all asleep.

Hope you situation corrects itself soon man...stay strong!

Dax Riggs - We Sing of Only Blood or Love
Same beer

This dude was lead singer of Acid Bath back in the day and more recently had a solid stint leading a band called Deadboy and the Elephantmen on Fat Possum (saw them open for QOTSA). He is the anti Ty Segal in that he is anything but prolific. Puts **** out once every few years at most. In fact this album may have been his last truly new material and it was released in 2007. Just when you think he’s disappeared, he re-emerges and he’s either tweaked his sound slightly cause he’s found some new influence or he’s completely reinvented himself - similar to Guy Blakeslee a bit in that way. Word is that he’s a bit of a perfectionist. Which is weird cause his ****’s far from perfect. That said I dig his vocal stylings and general musical vibe - obviously I follow the guy a bit. Wish he’d put out more.

Record: Oh Sees - Orc
Beer: Heist - Stranger Clouds (apparently the elevated amount of strangeness is important somehow)

Still think this is one of the more complete Oh Sees records from top to bottom. More so than Smote Reverser which I know folks are high on - including myself. Listened to that earlier and will again after this, but Orc does so much more for me and my tastes. Plus w/ Smote, I immediately missed the unbridled Dwyer yelps that this thing is chalk full of. Pierre Pressure - this is a nice bridge over from late Modey Lemon. I’d like to think I’m not saying that because Quattrone joined the band, but there are some similarities if I’m being honest.

It’s odd, but I find myself now searching for that special King Gizz track to get Pierre Pressure on board. Try “Muddy Water” and/or “Great Chain of Being” on for size!

Album: Gumboot Soup by King Gizz - this ones a bit more jazzy/groovy, but it’s weird as **** at the same time. A rarity in that there is no concept. Just songs...on an album. Imagine that! Their last release of new material, which, it pains me to say, is now more than a year in arrears.

Duuuuude, Dax is the ****. It really is sad that he's so seldom putting anything out / touring (he swings through NYC every so often, but its just him doing solo acoustic stuff). But something being scarcely available and not overly exposed is what I miss about music.

You mentioned that album as being his most recent work, but you must be aware of this album that came out in 2010, no? This one's my fave...

Yep...just forgot about that one in my late night drunkenness. Although it's not one of my faves of his...

Hahaha. Its the first one I got into, so its just the fulcrum around which the other albums spin I guess.

I totally understand that. My intro was the first Deadboy album...that **** is a classic. By the time that one came out in 2010, I had started losing track and only gave it a cursory review. I need to give it another listen...

Great Chain of Being is good enough to get me to toss this on my wantlist and maybe buy it someday in the future. Or at least listen to the album in full. I'll check out that Oh Sees record you suggested a little later when I can focus on an entire album.

The band of 2017 for me. I don't know if a band has put out that many great records in a year since CCR's string of great 1969 albums.
