Well that spoken word stuff is definitely not their norm and was pretty widely criticized as being a bit overboard. I doubt that’s what you’re referring to though. Still, I wouldn’t let this be the only album that informs your decision on whether or not you like the band. Like I said, everything released in 2017 is a concept for the most part and this was no exception. They have other stuff that sounds absolutely nothing like this.

Nah, I liked the spoken word stuff. If it was mostly instrumental with a bit of that, fantastic, sign me up. So far I've listened to this and...I think it was Polygondwanaland. I'll listen to more from them though, don't you worry.

Skyline daydream IPA and some Devo.

I recently listened to a 99% Invisible podcast about this album cover. It's a pretty fun listen. This page gives the quick transcript of it as well if you'd rather read than listen.

Thanks for sharing, fun read. Mark Mothersbaugh in particular was quite a versatile artist. Looks like Amazon has the book from his museum exhibition, Myopia, on sale for 60% of list price, if that's anyone's thing. I might finally get around to grabbing a copy myself at that price.

After reconnecting with new music in 2017 for the first time in nearly a decade, I am now evaluating nearly two years of new musical adventures. I can confidently say that new music releases significantly impact my musical opinions for the first time in a long time.

What have you done for me lately?

My favorite band of 2017 put out five new records that year. My favorite artist of this past year also put out 5 new records and made me all but forget about my 2017 obsession.

New music for the win! Am over the jaded hump. Can’t wait for 2019.

I just want to say, **** you, your new avatar, and any and all horses you both rode in on for briefly making me think there was someone new in here with whom I would enjoy discussing music.

But yeah....other than that, I'm with you.

Always recruiting.
