Funny thing...I didn't think I would be getting a stimulus check since I didn't have to pay taxes this year (new house interest, medical expenses, married w/ 3 children,etc.). However, when I punch all the numbers in to the IRS calculator, it shows a payment of $2100???

I was under the impression this was a tax rebate...not free money. If I didn't pay taxes, am I really going to get anything back? Not that I have a problem with that...but it just seems odd.

:mug: Well, it's not a tax relief check, its an economic stimulus check and we are supposed to stimulate the economy. So I beleive the best way to do this is spend it all in one place.:mug:

You DID have to pay taxes this year - federal income tax is withheld from each of your paychecks. If, at the end of the year, the amount that was already withheld is enough to cover your entire tax burden, you don't owe the government anything additional on April 15th. If the amount withheld is in excess of your tax burden, you get a refund.

I get to spend mine however my wife tells me to

Think I'll be takin my share and buying a little 91 escort GT! to drive back and forth to work for 300 bucks. haha If I don't do that SWMBO will just wanna be boring and pay bills or buy yet something else for the unborn child who already has way too much stuff. Maybe I can squeeze a Keggle out of it..

Did you still file a tax return? If so then you are eligible for the relief check.

Actually, I had them withold taxes but I got it all back...so I effectively paid $0.00 in taxes. I've got no problem with extra money...I guess I'll have to wait until May 9th to see if the direct deposit goes through :).

But the Keggle is for the baby....you want to be able to pass it down to him/her when the time is right. :tank:

They took mine so they could give it to folks who don't even pay taxes. :( Freeking Robin Hood.

We barely made it under the cap. I wish they would have just let me subtract the stimulus payment off of the couple grand check I sent them this year. I'll have to wait until July to get mine back.

The reason you have to claim your state tax return is because the year prior you claimed your entire state withholdings on your federal taxes. By claiming your tax return the following year this corrects that. So contrary to popular belief you are not paying taxes twice on this money. Understand????

fine, but I reserve the right to not like it :D , and I also dislike how my taxes are being spent.

conicals baby!!!

and if theres enough left over, a nice Pepsi Cooler to keep them chillin at a cool 62F

You don't have to have any tax liability, as long as you had at least $3k in income and filed a return.

To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return.

I hope that is the case...I can think of a few good uses for this money:

1. $1,000 to savings
2. $550 to SWMBO
3. $550 to me
a. $75 Lifetime Membership to HBT
b. $300: for brew pub/camping trip
c. $175: ??? Kegging setup or Bigger MLT or Bigger Brew Kettle ???

I'm with you and EdWort.

I'm just gonna imagine that my whole tax liability is now funding my brethren (and sistren) here at HBT, instead of any wasteful cause it might have gone to.

You're welcome! :mug:

i thought this was a pelozi et al designed bill? ;)

It's bipartisan, meaning idiots from both sides of the aisle had a hand in it. ;) Dubya is the one making lots of noise about it though, and he signed the damn thing.

Unless I'm mistaken, we haven't had a balanced buget in years, so this stimulous money is borrowed (China?), saddling us with even more national debt. Funny how 70% of our current debt was incurred under the last three conservative (laughs to self) presidents!

Paying off my credit card, paying my tax man (I have some back taxes) and the rest in savings

well, we just bought our first house, and ours came in today, could be a better time! Looks like i may be getting a temp controller.. and my wife is starting a garden..

yea for redistribution of wealth! We are getting closer to socialism i can taste it, and i want to spit it out!

my father makes a pretty good living (paid 90k in taxes this year) and he didnt get a dime from the package.. wtf is that?

Wow! Or you could afford another couple of kids!lol;) I count 5? We are at 3. I do love them all, but it aint worth having more in the hopes that I will get $300 more dollars some day!

You have my respect! And still camping?? You may be my idol!

EDIT:Doh! I misunderstood. The $550 to you is broken down. Gotcha! Oh well, if you are camping with 3 young kids you are still my idol. If you are waiting until they are all 5 or older, you are just like me!

Actually, I just have 3 but I wont be taking them on the brew pub camping trip. Once a year (actually been 2 years since the last one), me and a few buddies head up the northern california coast and hit micro breweries and pubs along the way. There just isn't anything better than getting out of the 110F heat of Chico and hitting the coast!
