When bottling my last batch (a IIPA) I forgot to take a FG reading before racking it into the bottling bucket with the priming sugar. I took one after I had racked all of the beer and had begun bottling. My FG came out at at 1.020 which was a little higher than expected. Im wondering how many points the 5 oz. of priming sugar would add to the FG reading if it would add any any at all. Thanks.

Sugar adds 44 gravity points per pound, divided by number of gallons. A gravity point is the thousanths digit of the SG.

So: (44 x (5/16))/5) = 2.75 GPs, meaning subtract .00275 (call it .003) from your reading. Your FG was 1.017.

Feel better now? Cheers!
