In February 2015, SWMBO decided that she was going to challenge herself swear off chocolate until our wedding, which isn't until October 2016. She's stuck to it, without any cheating or slip-ups, which I find kind of astonishing.

With the weather getting colder again, she's been saying how much she misses hot chocolate. Do any of you know of any warm non-chocolate beverages, or drink mixes I can put in her Christmas stocking, or anything?

(Other than tea and coffee, I mean :D)

hot toddy - tablespoon sugar, 2oz scotch whisky, and boiling water.
hot milk punch - tablespoon sugar, 1.5oz cognac, 0.5oz jamacian rum, fill with hot milk.

hot apple cider?

Make this at where I work. Maple Steamer. It's maple syrup and steamed milk.

It's basically 1 cup of milk and 2 TBSP of maple, more or less to taste.

Ovaltine?

Mulled cider

Hot toddies are great

Warm Guinness hits the spot.

People suggesting ovaltine must get different flavors. It's chocolate or nothing here.

Hot Dr. Pepper
Hot mulled cider
Hot toddys
Just had a thought, what if you steeped chocolate malt (the grain) to get the chocolate flavors & added a bit of sugar or LME to it & served it up hot? A wee smidge of vanilla would help to bring out the chocolate flavor as well as "sweeten" it. No actual chocolate in it, it's hot & sweet. You could even float a couple of marshmallows in it.
Regards, GF.

Edit: Maybe add powdered milk after steeping?
Regards, GF.

So doing this, with a little peppermint schnapps

Been making a quick mulled cider in irish coffee glasses.

6 oz store bought cider, microwaved in a measuring cup with a cinnamon stick and a couple cloves until steamy hot.

While heating, 1 1/2 oz rum and 1 tsp brown sugar in the irish coffee glass, stir to dissolve

Pour into glass - I usually add the cinnamon stick to the glass, but discard the cloves.

One last stir, enjoy!

that sounds like a good way to ruin sake!:pipe:

Just forego the chocolate - fill the mug 3/4 with scalded milk, add sugar to taste, and a few drops of vanilla.

BTW - if she was a marshmallow fan in her HC, and she likes strawberries, try using the strawberry-flavoured marshmallows in this.

:)
