I have a Märzen recipe that calls for 7.5 lbs of light Munich malt. I've decided to break it up into half Munich malt and half Pilsner malt. The question I have is now I need 3.75 lbs of munich and 3.75 lbs of pilsner, but I can only by them 3.3 lbs at a time. Do I need to buy two extra cans of both and measure out an additional .45 lbs, or is this something that brewing software could help be compensate for by scaling down the recipe?

So I just need to adjust all other ingredients accordingly for a 4.4 gal yield then?

I would get the 3.3 lbs of each Pilsner + 3.3 lbs of Munich for a total of 6.6 lbs of extract, and make up the additional with dried malt extract.

Subtract the 6.6 lbs you have from the 7.5 lbs you need and we get 0.9 lbs needed.

1 pound of LME converts to roughly 0.8 lbs of DME.

So 0.9 lbs of LME converts to .75 lbs of DME.

So final recipe:
3.3 lbs Pilsner LME
3.3 lbs Munich LME

and 3/4 of one a pound package of light DME (or if you're me, the whole pound)

Where you doing your shopping at? I am in Columbia, so I buy most of my stuff from MDHB.

MDHB is my place too. A buddy of mine and I saw there booth at the Timonium Oktoberfest and we were completely hooked. Ive been traveling a lot this fall/winter so Im just now getting to the brewing.

i would also double check on the extract you're getting. some of the munich extracts already have a percentage of pilsner in them.

This. Or use the remaining 3.2 ounces to make a yeast starter.

You can look up the color on the back of the Briess container or on their website (sometimes I think the names don't match from store to website, or maybe MDHB page is wrong) and plug it into your recipe calculator to figure out your color if that is a concern with your malt.
