im semi new to kegging and was wondering if it is possible to add a flavoring to a keg that is already hooked up to CO2?? Can i unhook it, release all the pressure and pop the lid off, add flavoring adjustments and then reconnect to gas?? Is this possible??

Yes, shouldnt be an issue at all. Just add anything slowly. It will foam when you add stuff and you dont want an overflow.

I added gelatin to an already carbonated keg once and it had no ill effects

i made a belgiun wit and it def needs more citrus/orange flavor, so i was going to add some boiled zest (after it cools). Kinda like a zest tea, hopefully that will do the trick.

Make sure you put the zest in a sanitized hops bag or a metal "tea ball" when you add it to the keg!

Otherwise, the zest can get stuck in your diptube and poppit and clog up the whole keg.

Or make the zest tea, and strain it,then just add the liquid. The last thing you want to deal with is a clogged tube

Beer that's been under CO2 pressure can foam excessively when you add ingredients to the keg. Introducing nucleation points can result in rapid and violent expansion, so beware. You can have a beer geyser of impressive heights!

Sorry -- :off:

I found this out the hard way when i added additional lactose to a hard cider after it had carbonated in the keg... cider went everywhere. it was fun to watch though.

Did you add the lactose powder or did you boil it in some water to sanitize and dissolve it? When I added gelatin to my keg, I didnt have any issues, but I dissolved it in water so that probably cut down on the nucleation points.

My guess would be that when adding anything to an already carbed keg, it would be best to dissolve it as best as possible in water. I could be wrong tho, its been known to happen before :drunk:
