Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has had success with storing their hops in freezer ziploc bags? These are different from regular zipblocs, as they are made to store meat in the freezer. They avoid freezer burn and are microwave safe, saying it is "thicker plastic" on the box. I think these will be better for reducing oxygen exposure for storage in the freezer.

Unless you can pull all of the air out of a Ziplock bag full of cones, whether their bags are actually oxygen-impermeable is rather moot.

There's almost always a FoodSaver unit on sale in their retail channel, and their cheapest models work just as well as their most expensive (which usually are essentially the same guts ladened with a bunch of cruft-ware).

I grow three C hop strains and put up about 12 pounds of dried cones each year.
It would be a colossal waste of time without a FoodSaver...

Cheers!

I have used ziplocs with air squeezed out, vacuum valve ziploc bags with a hand pump, now a vacuum sealer. Vacuum sealer and freezer is probably best, but my hops were never stale or cheesy with the other methods. I get good prices by ordering 4oz of my most used hops at a time, and using them in a few months.
