To add to that, shockingly enough a good point was made in the BA version of this thread: there is no way that $1 million can be even close to enough for the costs of this entire project; it's probably an order of 10 times that much. So what Stone is really doing here is a form of advertising, but where the customers pay for the ads!

I'm going to feel ill when the kickstarter hits 2.5 million and all the new bonus beers get unlocked

Not to play devil's advocate, but Stone did this (somewhat) with the first expansion/renovation of their current brewery, right? That's where Stonewall Ale came from: they solicited funds from backers. The landscape, and their financial position, has changed enough that I don't think the same moves go as well now. But it's food for thought.

On FB they said they don't have a lot of money. Not joking.

Over-leveraged between this and their east coast expansion project (which is at least a sensible endeavor unlike this nonsense).
Their hotel is nonsense too. What dumbfucks. Meanwhile, Ballast Point is building an entire brewery that will produce ONLY Sculpin. ******* awesome. Like or don't like Sculpin, but BP saw that people love it - they couldn't make enough - so they are building a monster brewery to give people what they want. Wow - who would have thought?

A much less hyped, American brewer of almost exactly the same size as Stone managed to build (start building? unaware of current status) an 8k barrel facility on the other side of the Atlantic, and I don't ever remember them asking me for money. So why does Stone get to do this and Brooklyn Brewery had to pay for it all themselves? Someone should give Garrett Oliver some money!

Remember when Lagunitas opened up a brewery in Chicago that's bigger than all Chicago breweries combined and on their own dime? The fact that a 50 year old guy that smokes pot all day has enough business sense to do this and Stone doesn't is mind boggling.

I like the Stone Ketchup idea. That would sell...so long as you get onion rings to go with it.

Man, if Alesmith had done a kickstarter/indygoogoo I bet you would have gotten some chez out of the rewards. I don't mind startups doing a kickstarter, that's the whole damn point. But established breweries and the structure of Stone's rewards is head scratching. And if Stone is broke and given the state of Greg's hobobeard...his downtown loft may be a cardboard box by Market & 15th. $30k to get shanked & rolled.

You should have an issue with your bottle shop for that. My local shop sold the last few at cost and that was like 11 bucks.
We get not great pricing on all their stuff. We had to jump through hoops to get enjoy by while they sent lots to new markets. Who cares they aren't even that good.

Unless that was all ********, I wouldn't be surprised.

He spent some time in Australia and nz. Even shipped some kegs over for three big tap takeovers.

Somewhat stupidly he spends a lot of time complaining about grey imports here, but is happy to drive demand by doing big events and then not distributing afterward.

A more cynical person might say it was an exercise in ego stroking so he could get a crowd to hear him "preach" on the bar tops.

They're only broke because they're probably spending $50M opening 2 new breweries. That's a lot of scratch.

So it can be true they have nothing left in the bank and the Berlin deal has got to be risky.

Well, it has hit a small snag that prevents it from going active.

I tried leaving feedback but it required a FB login. ****.

Yep, wootstout and la citrueille totally weren't the worst mass-distributed "craft" beers of the last five years. At all. Even sort of.

Ah, the early days. Before Greg sat upon his $30,000/night loft of Isendor.

Just don't get pissed off when the beer Ents angrily trample your bastardized kingdom.

So you disagree with 2 out of 19?
and I'm gonna fight with you about La Citrueille. That's the best Holliday beer evar!! Literally tasted like the in-laws house smells during the holidays!! Mmm glazed ham!! Not like the rest of the Pumpkin beers trying to taste like Pumpkin Pie and Punkin.... That is one of the worst mass-distributed "craft" beers!!

I only have time to disagree with those. And I could not disagree with you about La C more. Wanted a Christmas beer -- poured out that all spiced to hell garbage.

I think that's even more of a reason for the outrage as to their panhandling strategy - Their beers have flown off the shelf. The moment Enjoy By hits shelves, it flies right off the shelf at a higher rate than any other IPA on the market. Their special releases make them a lot of money - so it begs the question on where that money is going, if it's not going towards their own future.

It's far more frustrating that we are supporting them by buying their beer and then have them blow this smoke up our asses about joining some craft revolution by sending our product to an already rich beer country. If us buying beers isn't making ends meet for ol' Greg, then perhaps he should up the price on those regular beers.

Go to a ******* bank and get a business loan. With the output they're doing, they should have no problem getting a low interest rate loan.

And showing us that link to when they built the Stone Wall just further highlights how things have changed. Back then a $150 got you a $50 gift certificate, invitations to the wall party and a bottle of that beer. $100 of that went to charity.

How much of this money is going towards any sort of charity? Yeah - **** this stupid ****.
