I love the "I take full responsibility for the failure. But the German construction industry ****** me over. Also, Berliners only like cheap, ****** beer." What a *******.

And of course ******* Brewdog is taking over the facility. Like Mikkeller, they seem to have endless capital for their mediocre products. It's baffling.

Also in Germany cheap does not equal ******. People don't want to drink your expensive tired ass IPAs because they have grown up on world class lagers and have cheap access to them

"Amazing beer is being brewed by amazing brewers all over the country [Germany]. Unfortunately, according to the stats, most Germans are still ignoring these wonderful beers and buying the cheap stuff."

Can't the same still be said for all countries? Pretty sure most people in the U.S. still drink (insert cheap light beer) over Stone.

ha yea that’s the biggest kicker! htf does brewdog do it?? everything i’ve had from them is mediocre at best lol

I'm just glad this thread was bumped for the news. The immediate reaction to the announcement being a Kickstarter is always fun to revisit and is up there with the bottle-less Upland reserve society as one of my favorite reveals from the first couple of years of TalkBeer.

The announcement is one of those "I remember exactly where I was moments" for me.

Sitting in a pew alone before a wedding ceremony (gf was a bridesmaid and I didn't know anyone), laughing my ass off that it was a crummy crowdfunding campaign. Periodically refreshing TB during the ceremony for more lulz.

Good acquisition for BrewDog.

I'm still convinced that a homeless former youth minister with a fleeting resemblance to Greg murdered the real Greg Koch and took over his life. I swear the dude grew a 6" beard and became who we know today overnight.

Here's Brewdog's side of the story. I guess they're still going to contract brew Stone there. It prolly says that in Greg's piece too, however I rolled my eyes and stopped reading after about 5 sentences.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind this might also be BrewDog hedging their bets with Brexit. Any beer produced here would not be subject to any tarriffs that might occur if/when the UK leaves the EU. Just a thought.

Brewdog related:

They massively ****** up their Australian brewery. It was delayed over a year, the only three staff left, and now it's been announced it'll be half the size, potentially breaching contracts in place with the State Government:

In February, Brews News contacted the Queensland Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning for an update on the projects given the lengthy delay and indications that BrewDog had scaled back its Brisbane plans. A spokesperson told Brews News the department was in regular contact with BrewDog in relation to the status of this project.

“The department has not been advised of any variation to plans for this project,” the spokesperson said.

“The current agreement between BrewDog and the department involves specific performance milestones which, if not met, can result in changes to this agreement.

Just visited Stone Berlin a few weeks back and thought the space was beautiful. Massive, but beautiful. I was there on a weekend evening and it was maybe 1/3 full. Part of the issue I saw was location. If you are visiting Berlin it is a trek out of town without an easy transit ride out. Uber is fine but its at least 20 euros one way from the center of the city. The locals may not be enough to support it given deep roots in their "cheap" beer. Its truly hard to compete.
I was never a Stone fan given Greg's douchey preaching bit, but I've enjoyed some of their offerings.
Not shocked by this end result and now looking forward to wearing my Stone Berlin shirt even more. ;)

Thats what I'm thinking too. Also, lets be honest for a second. God love the Germans but they're not the fondest of anything American at the moment.

As for Mikkeller vs. Brewdog.... not even close. M>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>B

Berlin is now shittier for this change of hands. Not that it was **** before, but you know what I mean.

I have a few local work colleagues that went all the time, had their office Christmas parties there etc. They're all a bit bummed out about it. While Brewdog taking over isn't the worst thing ever they're now essentially the Shake Shack of beer.

Did Mikkeller improve in the last 10 years or something?

I’ve always thought his beers kinda sucked. Then again we always get them old (and only the stuff made in Europe). I’ve had a number of bad experiences.

They largely suck, but Batch 1 BA Vanilla Shake is one of the best adjunct stouts I've ever had.

Some of their Baghaven barrel-sour stuff is okay
