The stir plate i purchased has a plastic top that is just too small for my liking for a stir plate holding a 2000mL EF. I went out looking for a piece of thin plastic to replace it with, but couldn't find anything. Instead i found a piece of dry erase board that was the same thickness as the plastic top. I drilled the four holes into the board and screwed it on. With the extra area around the Ef since the top is now much larger, i can write what yeast i have in the flask, and keep track of what i have done to it over the course of a couple days.

Um, can the magnet penetrate through that? You appear to have the same SP that I have and I have difficulty getting a thick starter to spin when the flask is directly on top of the SP let alone introducing another layer above it. Will be interesting to see how this works out.

The reason i modified it was because i started a yeast starter with 500mL, and when i went to ramp it up to 1500mL i was a little uneasy about the size of the stir plate, the magnet has no problem penetrating through the board, its like compacted cork with a layer or dry erase paint on top. Pretty thin material, and didn't have any issues when i put the 1500mL starter on top and got a nice vortex going. The magnet worked just like it did when it had the old plastic top on. I made sure that the magnet was able to penetrate through the material, and it does :ban:
