A colleague at work (Chem teacher) handed me a stir bar this morning as a thanks for some help this summer in a training. It is an unused (packaged) 2.5" stir bar (egg shaped). I can't wait to try it out, but I'm wondering if it is more than I need, could there be any drawback to using it?

I'm using a homemade stir-plate, so I suspect it may be too big for the plate to spin the bar, though he has offered me a stir plate too . . .

Yeah. Maybe a bit overkill. I have a few similar to that size from when my dad worked with industrial printers. They were used to stir large quantities of toner. Large as in between 5 and 55 gallons.

The egg-shaped stir bars are for round-bottom flasks.
If you can get a free stir plate then get that thing!!
