Hi everyone.

I am new to the forum. I have made lots of beer and mead in my day but never any hard cider. For the last few years I have been buying the inexpensive boxed wine (Almaden, Franzia, etc.) It comes in a heavy plastic bag and a box to hold its shape with a plastic spigot. My theory is that since the spigot can be pulled out, I could sanitize the bag and refill it with a still (fully fermented) cider and dispense it as needed/wanted.

Has anyone done this yet? I can't imagine I'm the first to think of this but i couldn't find any postings on the subject.

Thanks.

I know that Fermtech has the wine on tap bag (same general Idea).

I have also seen some other companies with plain white wine boxes that you can fill yourself.

So to answer your question...I don't see why not.

yeah my brewing supplier sells them new in 3, 5, 10L, but no reason you can't reuse one, i would definitely pay special attention to sanitizing the nozzle part since that is the most likely to harbor mold/algae/gunk

ive bib'ed thousands of litres of cider as long as its fully fermented you wont have a problem in a wine bib, however if theres any activity itll pop like a burlesque dancers ballon.cider bib are double skined and the inner is gas permeable to allow the gas to escape without compromising the container
