Hey y'all,

I have been considering starting up my own growler shop with another buddy of mine but need some details on where to get started and some pointers. We both are currently college graduates and really enjoy the craft beer industry and this particular aspect of it. I have talked to a couple of owners of growler shops and they mentioned it was fairly simple except for dealing with the county regulations and permits. I live outside of the Atlanta area if that helps at all. Really I just want to get some advice and tips on how to start one up successfully. Thanks.

I think its a solid idea. I have had the same idea to start one up here in Manteno. I'm not sure how much of a profit these places make but I would believe it is a viable business.

Permits are always a problem when distributing alcohol but I would think the most expensive part of this business would be purchasing a solid draft system as these are very expensive.

I would love to what other information is out there as I am interested in this as well.

I appreciate you agreeing that it's not a bad idea. Regardless of the money situation, I just would like to start one up and see how it goes. I probably would work a side job if it wasn't profitable but most of the stores around seem to do great business. As far as the draft system, that it is a hefty investment but places like probrewer and online sites can sell them for a decent amount. And for anybody reading this, if you have the same idea and live around the atlanta are then feel free to let me know. I would be happy to have people join in on this.

Owning a bar only ever seemed to be a good idea to me if you're using other people's money.
