Here is my issue - i made a starter yesterday. 1 cup of DME to 1500ml water - in my previous starters i have used the aluminum foil for the top of the flask. Well last time i was at the LHBS they had the foam stoppers for the top. I thought they were supposed to breathe? When i woke up this morning the foam piece was blown out part of the way and had yeast all over the inside of the top of it and running down the side of the flash. So i removed the foam and went back to my old foil method.
So my question is - do i need to be worried about how much yeast I lost out of the top of the flash - will i be under pitching? Did i misunderstand the use if this foam stopper? Or do something wrong?
