I don't know how often this might happen, but I just went and grabbed my thermometer out of my bucket with a small amount of Starsan water in it (been sitting since last weekend when I brewed). I don't know why I didn't get everything out of it, but there it was.

Pulled it out, and went to rinse it off, and it rinsed super clean. The numbers and markings washed clear off!

Its not a surprise to me, just not something I thought would happen. Taught me a lesson - get all of my stuff out of the starsan before packing things away.

That's why some silkscreened labels like stone bottles come right off after a several day's soaking in even dilluted startsan. My glass measuring cups have suffered the same fate as your thermometer, from sanitizing them that way.
