How often do you guys replace the gaskets for the TC fittings on a Spike conical? I have a number that I clean and sanitize after use but they're getting pretty discolored and I wonder if they may be causing contamination.

I replace when they are abraded from cleaning or have begun to deteriorate (usually the inside edges will chip and split). Discoloration isn't typically a reason for replacement as long as they are still cleanable and capable of being sanitized.

I will say though, I switched from white buna/silicone gaskets to black EPDM gaskets last year and I'm really glad I did. They're just as durable, don't discolor, and are super easy to locate in the bottom of a white bucket full of sanitizer. Pricing is similar if not better, also.

I was just looking at the black EPDM TC gaskets for my SS Uni - where are you sourcing these gaskets? I see some on Amazon for around $26 USD for a pack of 10 - EPDM 1.5" TC gaskets. Seems a little higher than silicone but I suppose it's all about where you buy. SS has silicone replacements for $4.95 (pack of 3), and there are some silicone gaskets on Amazon for $8.49 (pack of 10).

Norcal has them for about a buck a piece https://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com/store/Tri_Clover_Gasket_1.5_Inch_EPDM_Teflon.html

Can't recommend EPDM gaskets strongly enough. Besides being more durable and easier to clean/sanitize they are also 100 times less permeable to oxygen than silicone rubber. As a matter of fact there is no reason to employ silicone gaskets in a brewery and indeed no commercial operation does.

And those work fine with the spike conicals?

I recently placed my order and should be receiving my order tomorrow or Friday. They should work with any industry standard TC port/flange. Spike's TC ports are industry standard and are not proprietary. Since I have various vessels and gadgets, I counted what I needed and then doubled that amount on most and tripled the amount on some. IMHO, it never hurts to have extra.

I ended up buying (42) 1.5", (16) 2", (6) 3", (3) 4", and (3) 8". Shipping via FedEx Ground was $9.77. Thus, the total paid which included shipping was only $64.63.
