Spike Solo negatives....

SPIKE SOLO. Tell me why it is not worth getting. I have watched the videos and read reviews and I love Spike, but I want to hear from those who switched to the all in one solo and hate it. Convince me not to buy it. Real honest opinions. Much appreciated.

It's a great system. Really. I have a 15G Solo and love it.

Three downsides IMHO:

1. Lifting a heavy grain basket out of the mash is a bear.

2. Cost is high compared to similar AIO systems (though so are quality and service).

3. The system is designed with a rather large dead space under the grain basket. This makes the mash thick for big beers and can make it difficult to keep uniform temperatures. In my experience it is hard to achieve efficiencies higher than 68%.

But overall you get what you pay for!
