So i had a day off for the 1st time in weeks today, and still woke at 6am.
Got up and decided to brew this morning.
I use the Brew Monk Magnus 45L, but there are loads of variants of this type of model.
Used a new chiller today and forgot to adjust my profile and ended up being slightly low on the gravity by about 3 points but up on the volume so I just have slightly less potential ABV and 26Ltr of wort lol.
Really looking forward to beer with the nice weather we are soon expecting. 20200709_082634.jpg

I tried to find some sorachi ace for my last beer but all the locals were out.

What did you make? (recipe).

I bought a pound at the end of last year and I’m planning a Japanese style beer with it. Looks like a good day! I’m also interested in the recipe.

Man...you guys and your brewing machines! Do they fold clothes too?!?! Just joshing...I do need to do some research...never used Sorachi Ace before...you have my interest piqued.

Just brewed a summer wheat ale with Sorachi today. Never used it before, so excited to taste it in a lighter beer. Loved the smell of the hops when they went it the kettle. Was looking for something different. We’ll see how it turns out.

It's a great hop, but it's one of those weapons-grade hops that need to be treated with respect. When it first became available, I went whole hog on a Sorachi Ace SMASH and made a pristine clone of Lemon Pine-Sol. I shall concede that it was not my finest hour.

I will post a screenshot of the recipe I took from Brew Father app, there was also I touch of Citra go in at the end with the Sorachi.
you will notice that the recipe shows they went in at 1min left in the boil, but they were actually left for a Steep at 80°c for 20 mins.

Also this was Mashed at 67°c for one hour, followed by 10 min mashout.
Here are the water adjustment I made incase anybody wants it. Like I said, I forgot to adjust my recipe for the new chiller which has less losses so ended up slightly higher on volume, was meant to be a 21ltr batch

I'm thinking to take it real easy with it the first time because of what I've read about that happening. Probably just use it on the bittering charge.

I'll have a report out in a week for the first tastes of this brew but used 2 oz in 10 gal of a summer wheat ale (1.054 and 25 IBU). 1 oz at 45, 1/2 oz at 10, and 1/2 oz at 5 min. Should be enough to get the flavor and aroma, but hopefully not over do it.
