I'm looking into building a sofc for my garage but wondering how it does in high temp situations. I live in El Paso, TX and temp is currently 60-70s but during the summer it can get up to 100 and over that in my garage. Will the chiller hold up against these temps or is it a lost cause? Any experience from guys using one in similar situations?

I'm able to get about a 20 degree drop with frequent ice changes. I think 100F is really pushing it.

Sorry I should have read the title, or the whole post. I use an outdoor fridge with temp control, so I don't see why the sofc wouldn't work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I live in Metro Atlanta where mid to upper 90's are common during the Summer. & the ground water at the time of year is normally in the 80's.
I use a CFC w/ a recirculating pump w/ ice. I cool as much as I can w/ the ground water & save the hot water run off for clean up before adding ice to the bucket w/ pump.
I usually get my wort down to 64-6) in about 10-15 minutes.

guys quit talking about wort chilling. he is asking about a fermentation chamber!

I use a CF wort chiller along w/ a prechiller for the hose to bring my wort temps down no problem. Im actually asking about chilling the wort during the fermentation process. Thank you for taking time to respond though.

Progmac - 20* would still put me around mid 80s. Keeping it in the house is not an option. Guess im going to have start looking at a fridge or freezer option. Thanks.

Sorry. I miss understood the question since he referred to a chiller.
I'm lucky enough to have a ferm chamber that will hold 5-6 carboys & a lager chamber underway.

I use a son-of-fermentation chiller in Mobile, AL, but I don't use it outside. During the summer our house stays in the low to mid 80's during the day when no one is home. I can get about a 20-25 degree differential. Any more than that and it's hard. I recently brewed a lager and had to change the ice twice a day to keep the fermentation temps at 50 deg. The temps in the house were in the low 80's to high 70's. I think that 100 degrees would be a bit much for the sofc.
