Well.... *sigh* Relax, Don't worry, have a homebrew right?

Long story short I shook the yeast vile a little too much and it 'blew' all over the towel instead of going in the starter flask. S*!T I screamed.

All-in-all I think I got a fair amount inside the flask. My quick reflexes managed to move the vial over the flask before too much of it spilled on the towel. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. :p

Oh and while I was trying to get the most yeast IN the flask I managed to drop the vial cap in too. Don't ask... That took a while to get out.

Oh well. I'll see what it looks like tomorrow afternoon and will hit the LHBS if I need to.

*sigh*

RDWHAHB, RDWHAHB, RDWHAHB....

you will be fine, if it were me I would just give the starter an extra day or 2 to do its thing and "brew on". I have been canning wort with every batch so I have a ton kicking around, so with that being said I could simply "step-up" the starter to a second flask after 2 days but thats up to whether you want that kind of hassle or not. Either way you could probably pitch it as-is and be good, it just may take a day to kick off.

If you think you are still low on the amount of yeast, aerate your wort really well and the yeast will be able to multiply in the fermenter to make up for the lower quantity being pitched.

What kind of yeast was it, and what kind of beer was it? More specifically, what was the OG?

Thanks for setting my mind at ease everyone. :mug:

The yeast is California Yeast WLP001 and the beer I haven't brewed yet. I'll be starting that in a bout an hour or so. It's the American Honey Porter All Grain kit from MoreBeer. According to the directions the OG should be somewhere around 1.054-59.

I checked the starter this morning (I do have a stir plate so I have that going for me) and it seems to be doing well. I may just let it stay on the stir plate one more night and pitch tomorrow instead of tonight. We'll see...

That is a strong enough yeast and mellow enough OG that the yeast will be fine. Pitch as-is.

Well it's been pitched. The brew hit an OG of 1.060 which is a tad high for this recipe. I pitched it at a wort temp of 66F so we shall see.

Thanks again.
