Hi all. I just wanted to pass along a technique I have been using. I noticed that some people were complaining that their Fermometers peel apart when they soak their carboys in a tub of water. I took a clear plastic stick on pouch for a FedEx package, cut the top non-adhesive layer off and applied the sticky layer right over the Fermometer strip. Its like a big piece of tape that will keep the fermometer dry. The glue in these pouches is not water soluble, so you don't have to worry about it coming off.

Thanks BBG, nice solution. I've been too embarrassed to ask whether going through one the things every three batches was normal.

Along the same lines, if you ever need to remove the black sticky stuff from a better bottle, use mayonnaise, yeah I know it sounds weird, but it works!

Well there you go. All I know is that as a kid we always used mayo to remove pine pitch from our hands, and after I had gone through every last plastic safe solvent I had in the house yesterday I gave the mayo a try. Good to know!
