You should put in a heated driveway, eh?

That would require increasing the size of my feed from the electric company. Which, in turn, would trigger all sorts of other mandatory equipment and work to bring things up to current code.

Do you guys north of 60 North have natural gas service? A steam boiler could make quick work of thawing your driveway. And then you could install a steam fired brewhouse. Seems like a win-win to me. :D

Sure we do, but my house isn't connected to it. Connection fee is 10 thousand euros.

Just over the highlands from you , 3-4 feet deep everywhere here.
Have to keep trimming overhead branches on the x-c skiing trails in the woods.
Going to be warm enough tomorrow to brew a 5 gal batch, pipeline gone dry from too cold to brew

They call it Vacationland? Im in the lakes for the weekend.

Wow, you are already on the level of Finland cold there. That is like -29 celcius, which we do experience now and then - sometimes for a few weeks straight. Nuff to make your nostril hairs freeze ;-)

Snow is falling here now, and it's the warmest it's been in a while. At 24* it feels warm, which is sad. Even sadder is that I'm pretty sure my snowblower is completely done for as it's $200+ to fix the parts I need after I just installed a new engine on it. :(

Can winter just end already?!?

Much of the eastern half of the US is on track to have their coldest February in history.

By contrast, we have had the warmest winter in Finland in the past 50 years or more. Normally, February is the coldest month of the year here where we are having exactly the kind of temps that you folks are seeing now. This February, we have been rotating between a few degrees below and above freezing almost constantly.

They said rain today yet we are getting more snow. Good news is I won't have to help shovel the roof unless we get four more feet. We cleared 8000 cubic feet of heavy snow yesterday. After we were done we jumped off the roof into ten foot snow piles.

I'm impressed! (Yes, really.)

Everyone here goes in to a state of panic when it starts snowing. Getting stuck all over the place yesterday. Thousands of accidents. People refusing to even take public transit to a club gathering because of a couple inches of snow. I drove 120 miles round trip to judge a preliminary flight for a competition yesterday in the thick of it without issue. I've never been able to grasp why these people have such a hard time. I'm on the roads all day every day regardless of the weather, and working out in the cold, and it's the people who barely drive and work inside that do all the complaining.

Yeah, I guess I have to basically agree with you. Before I retired from Ford in Cleveland, I drove at least 50-65 miles a day, no matter the weather, including the "white Hurricane" of 1978. Took me 2 1/2 hours to drive home in it. Back to below zero today after a weekend of about 30F.

We got another 5" or so over the weekend. We finally got some sun yesterday so at least the ice dams melted down a bit. My back yard is going to be a freaking swamp until about August once all this stuff starts melting. Not going to be a good year for mosquitos.

-20F this morning. School canceled again. Kids had a 5 day weekend!

I'm hoping that's the end of the below zero stuff. At least the lakes are freezing and the critters are getting the proper chill they need.

When it's -20F in Finland, not a single school shuts down. Nor are there any flights canceled. Granted, after global warming, it doesn't get that cold here that often any more, but when it does it's nothing more than business as usual.

We lucked out and only saw about 5" of snow Saturday into Sunday. The best part, you ask? It was so nice yesterday (it hit 32!!!) I was able to clear the snowfall and do the roof raking in my sweatshirt!!!!!
