Life seems to be stacking things against me recently, limited time, back pain, and lack of space. I love brewing but I need to do smaller batches that are faster start to finish. Now I need some input.

To that end, I am going to try BIAB, a much maligned and often misunderstood technique. Since I'm a geek, and happen to have an extra arduino or two, I've come up with a unique way of doing BIAB.

I am planning on using my old extract brewing pot to do 2 gallon BIAB batches. I am going to install a thermowell in the middle of the pot and insulate the pot with some leftover Reflectrix that I have (http://www.homedepot.com/Building-M...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053). It is great stuff and is easy to attach with some aluminum tape. I will be using a 5 gallon paint strainer bag for my bag.

The arduino comes into the picture in controlling my mash temperatures. I am thinking about using the widely available PID algorithim to control a servo which would in turn move the gas knob on my stove (either through a rod setup or some sort of gear). I would use my aquarium pump setup to keep the wort moving in the pot.

Now I'm not even sure this step is necessary with proper insulation but it sounds like a fun project. Any ideas?

UPDATE: I've been looking at this code for and Arduino Espresso System: http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Main/BarebonesPIDForEspresso

Couldn't the PID output be converted to proportional servo movement?

excellent idea. i was thinking something along the same lines for smaller batches.

Keep us informed of your arduino code. I'm writing my own program to have an lcd menu interface using an encoder that will control an element. It's slow going because arduino is all new to me
