Should I bother with a backing plate in my CP?

My steel control panel; well, actually this is a 10x10x4, I'm using an identical 12x12x6.

Should I use a steel backing plate?/ If so, how would I go about adding one?

Yes. You will need to make one or buy one from the manufacturer of the enclosure.

A backing plate will make things much easier. The easiest way would probably to find someone who can cut some sheet metal for the plate.

Also go to lowes or home depot and buy a drill tap for what ever type of mounting hardware your using. They sell taps with the appropriately sized drill bit for around $6 each.
