I was planning on brewing today and the weather just isn't cooperating. It is 34 degrees outside with freezing rain.....just not ideal conditions to brew.

I made a 1000ml starter on Wednesday night, put it on the Stirplate and let it go for a day, then bumped the starter upto 2000ml on Thursday night, let it go until Friday Night and cold crashed it in the fridge. It has been in the fridge since then.

How long will it stay good in the fridge? It is WLP820 German Lager Yeast. I just don't know when/if I'll be able to brew if the weather stays crappy.

Thanks!

I've had one in the fridge for more than a month on multiple occasions. Have a beer and lament the weather, but don't worry about the starter. :)

Phew that is a relief! Did you have to add to the starter when you went to use it? or did you just pitch it right in?

I'd just pitch it right in, the yeasties should be fine. I got a batch done last weekend (thank god!!!), I'm in Atwater and can agree that this weather really sucks! It's only good for football & beer drinking.

probably should let the starter warm up a bit though before pitching. ideally the starter and the wort should be about the same temp at pitch. just to avoid thermal shock to the yeasties.
