greetings all :)

i am new to these forums and have made exactly 1 batch of homebrew previous to now; so i am quite new to the hobby.

my question is with regards to the secondary fermentation process. this time around i would like to use secondary fermentation in a 5 gallon carboy, and i was wondering (forgive my utterly noobish question!) whether or not yeast is added to the wort at any point when it is transferred to the secondary vessel?

i am making wheat beer from a kit that includes wheat liquid malt ext., and the instructions only give procedures for the primary fermentation and then goes straight to bottling.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thank you!

Nope, no new yeast, one of the points of secondary is to clear the beer. This should only be done when fermentation is complete (e.g. Final gravity has been reached), I rarely secondary regular beers these days and never have secondaried a wheat beer. If you haven't read it yet here is an excellent source for beginning brewing: http://www.howtobrew.com/intro.html

You dont add yeast to the secondary. When you secondary its for conditioning purposes only. The fermentation takes place in the primary. Just make sure its done fermenting before transferring to the secondary. If i was you i would leave it in the primary for 3 to 4 weeks and siphon to bottling bucket directly from the primary then bottle.
