I am looking to start brewing with Brett. I know the general consensus is to have separate plastic equipment for everything brett vs non-brett. However, how about the glass carboys? Is a long bleach soak after bottling + star-san at brew day enough to reuse a carboy on a clean beer?
 
I thought i read somewhere that you want to keep your lacto and sacc brewing equipment separate but the brett is easier to purge from normal equipment. correct me if im wrong, if im wrong then i need to buy new auto siphon and bottling bucket. i just fermented a 100% brett B apa with my equipment.
 
Last time I did a brett beer, I did my typical warm water + supercharged oxiclean rinse then filled it with as hot of water as I could get out of my tap (~140*F) and let is sit overnight. The next day I added Starsan to the now cooled water and let that sit for about 24 hours.

Purely anecdotal but my next beer fermented in that carboy did not have any brett infection that I could tell.
 
On the flip side, is there a good sanitary regimen that will maintain/promote brett bugs in the plastic carboys that I have used for brett?

I read an experiment done by New Belgium Brewing where they showed that Brett had significant flavor impact at inoculation rates of 100 cells/mL (compared to the usual 0.75-1.5 million cells/mL we use as pitching rates for brewing yeast).

Since star-san or bleach are disinfectants and not sterilizers, I'm a little worried about reusing glass fermenters. Than again 100 cells/mL would require 2 million brett cells on the walls of the carboy for a normal 5 gal batch. That's why I would like to know what some of the experienced people who use Brett do.
 
Glass - normal clean and sanitizing should be fine.

Hoses - should use separate equipment. You can't guarantee being clean; you are playing roulette.

Plastic fermenters - separate is preferred, but can be cleaned. I mix them occasionally. I always store fermenters filled with mild bleach solution, after using brett, and have never had a problem.
 
So i'm planning my first brett batch too. I'm planning to ferment in glass and I've got some separate transfer/serving tubing.

What about taps, rubber stoppers, keg disconnects, o-rings, and silicone tubing?

Can I just pop all this stuff in the pressure cooker and keep using it with other batches? How long should I steam it for? Anything that shouldn't go in?
 
My (admittedly tenuous) grasp of microbiology says that, regardless of the equipment, as long as you observe standard, albeit thorough, sterilization and sanitation techniques, there shouldn't be an issue.

I'll be bottling my first sour this weekend and approaching cleanup in this way, sooooo we'll see how it pans out. ;-)
