Hey guys, im currently waiting on parts for my new mash tun, 10 gallon igloo cooler from HD. Im also wanting to add a RIMS tube to my system. I saw the other day menards is carring a 120v 1440w stainless element. Would this work? I dont want to scorch my wort! Also, 240v is out of the question for me right now. I plan on getting strike water to temp, or close, and using the element only for keeping the wort constant, unless its possible to get the wort to temp with just the 1440w element. Thanks guys!

1440W will get you to strike temp, just plan on it taking a little. In my first run with a 1500W 120V RIMS I got from ~70°F to 140°F in around an hour.

The thing to check on elements is if the base is stainless. Most elements are stainless for the actual heating elements, however the bases are not. Hot water heaters have sacrificial anodes to prevent the base from rusting. your RIMS will not. It's possible to pot these and prevent rust, tons of DIYs out there. However you can order a 100% stainless 1500W element for ~$20 from various places.

It would be better to get a ULWD element to reduce the chance of scorching.
