I am hoping to get back into home brewing again this summer. I have been considering investing in BeerSmith 2.0 although it might be overkill for m first few attempts.

But I notice there is a BeerSmith book. It has some good reviews on Amazon but does not appear in the book reviews here.
Is it a good resource and companion to the software?

I already have John Palmer's book from 2009 and a copy of Papazian's book from 1983.

I use BS 2.0 and was not aware there is a book for it. While the user interface is a little difficult it is pretty powerful software for not a lot of money. When I started using it I found the online tutorials to be very helpful for setting everything up. there is a little trial and error involved and a lot of measurement verification required to get the proper equipment set up, but once you get everything in properly it works great!

Besides, perhaps additionally detailed information I am not sure the book would be any more worthwhile than the online tutorials that are free. Besides, you can get a trial version of the software for free to try!

I also use BeerSmith 2.0. If the book you're talking about is Brewing with BeerSmith then I would recommend reading it. Id say buy it used from Amazon if you can find it but it is very informative and has taught me a lot. As a companion to the software though, I'm not sure. There isnt a whole lot of information about the software in the book unless he is promoting it. :mug:

I had high hopes for BS.. but, I find it too difficult for me. There area a few Youtube tutorials.. but, it all happens so fast, I can't make heads or tails from them. Either a well written BS primer or a number of decent vids by users would be great. I'm quite surprised there aren't a bunch of vids from users.

Okay cool. Its definitely worth reading. But if you are looking for something that goes in depth about the software then this isnt the book. I havent found a book that explains the software. Its been mostly trial and error for me.
