Removing the core from a sanke, SUPRISE!

I at last got a used sanke 1/2 bbl keg. The problem is that when I went to remove the core I found out that it had no lock ring. A friend told me that it was an old keg from Europe. It sure smells like Guiness when I release the pressure but, I have no idea how to remove the core at this point. The keg has no marking at all.
Anybody seen this or know how to remove the core???

I think i read somewhere that some unscrew. Just thinking out loud but I am sure you will get an answer from someone that has had one of these.

Thanks samc! I read this and after doing so went out and did a detailed search of the keg. I found a spot that had a plate spot welded on that had been removed but I think I can read that the plate use to say Hamms brewing co. While I am not 100% sure it appears that way. Doesn't make sense with the left overs in the bottom of the keg but who knows what was there last.
So any advice on how to remove a Hamms core? I will start checking other places on the web as well and will report back if I find anything.

If it's like the 50L Stella keg I had, you have to spin the inside and it unscrewed . I used a large heavy mallet and hammered a pry bar against the tab until it unscrewed, counterclockwise. There was some sort of latching thing that prevented it from coming out even after it was unscrewed. I had to pry the center out to get a screwdriver in there to get it free.

I had a keg with a threaded spear, I cut the top off before removing the spear and was able to unscrew it by hand afterwards.

There are 6 different sankey keg types. Most of the spear removal tutorials are for type D (American) kegs, but there are some threads here that discuss spear removal of some of the other types as well. It would help a lot if we knew which type of keg you have. Could you either post a picture, or look here, and tell us which picture looks most like the top of your keg?

The last time I tried to take apart an old school screw style sanke the threads on the spear where so corroded that I completely destroyed the spear and never even got the threads loose. Not that it really mattered, my lid just isn't as pretty.

Thanks all, the Video from DaytonBrewing was super helpful. The other thing I discovered is that if you are just trying to temove the spear to create a pivot point you can take an empty canned mushroom can ( I think that a tomato sauce can might also work but have not had time to test that out)and use that as a pivot on the outside of the spear housing. Once the lid is cut out the spear can be easily removed because you can depress the retainer tab.
