Regulator????

I'm somewhat new to kegging my home brew. How should I be adjusting the pressure on the regulator? Should I adjust the screw until the needle reads the desired pressure without pulling the release valve, or should I focus on the reading associated when I pull the release valve and see where the needle equalizes?

You want to set the pressure with the relief valve closed.

If you want to lower the pressure on the dial, you'll need to vent some air from the keg to see the needle drop. I found out the hard way when I cranked my reg the whole way down and ended up with flat beer.
