I am just about to purchase some of the supplies needed to begin my keezer build and I am stuck on which type of shank to purchase.

Is there a noticeable difference in taste or serving between a stainless steel shank versus a non-stainless steel shank?

I found a 3" shank (non stainless) with a welded nipple on it for $15.95, versus a non-welded 4" stainless steel shank which comes with the hex nut and 3/16" nipple for $28.95. I will be ordering 4 of them so the difference will add up. Considering that I will buy Perlick faucets a little bit of savings will help. Any comments would be appreciated!

Dunno about the difference, but FWIW Micromatic has 4 or 5" stainless shanks for $19, and AHS has stainless nipple/hex nut packs for 4.95.

No noticeable difference in taste but the chrome does tend to oxidize and/or chip after several years of exposure to ~4 pH beer. If you plan to keep the parts for 10+ years, I recommend you go stainless for a few dollars more. Otherwise, chrome is more than sufficient.
