Is there any recipes out there for a Kilkenny style? If you aren't aware of this gift from the beer gods, it is a like a red Guiness. I cannot find it anywhere around me so except a few Ieish pubs but that isn't cheap. If I can't find it, I'll make it. Right?! :)

If anyone knows of a recipe id greatly appreciate it.

Ha! I'm am doing this potentially this weekend. I'll let you know in a little over a month. :)

0.75 oz Challenger (UK) 60 min
0.1 oz Fuggle (US) 15 min
0.1 oz Fuggle (US) 1 min

wlp 004 Irish Ale Yeast

There is an ancient thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showpost.php?p=3492293&postcount=14 with the following recipe (much heavier on the grain, don't know why).
8.48 lbs Belgian Pale
3.64 lbs Belgian Wheat Malt
1.81 lbs Carared
0.49 lbs Flaked Oats
0.11 lbs Belgian Chocolate Malt
0.10 lbs Black Roasted Barley

0.6 oz Northern Brewer (Pellets 60 min.)
0.1 oz Fuggles (Pellets 15 min.)
0.1 oz Fuggles (Pellets 1 min)

White Labs WLP004 Irish Ale Yeast

Target Mash Temperature 152 deg F

Target Boil Volume 6.59 gallons for a 5.00 gallon batch.

I'm going to try it some time this summer but not within the nearest 6 weeks. In the meantime I'm quite interested in your experience.

It turned out pretty good! I'm not sure it's Kilkenny but it's hard to tell without it being nitroed. It's still green too. It's carbed but then Co2 hasn't locked in yet and it gets a head like crazy the. Goes flat so it needs probably another week to get dialed in. But the beer tastes great for a red. Great color too. This is a good recipe no doubt.

I'll update this in a week once the Co2 has chance to take hold.

I might try one of these. I've been trying to make an Irish red but the last one had something wrong with it, possibly infected as its a bit sweet and tart. Not malty at all like you want.

The one i linked to is pretty darn good. The one above with the chocolate sounds good too
