all of our mothers were, that was my point.

dont forget most of us on here come from a time where our mothers actually cooked. lol
Mine wasn't. She was a passable cook.

I think she cooked because we all needed to eat. I don't think she ever truly loved it. And I think it's hard to be an amazing cook unless you love it.

I don't like yucking on other people's yums but here are mine.

Yum: pepperoni, mushroom, onion, pepper sweet and spicy ones, pineapple, perciutto, olives, fresh basil, arugala, oregano, some dessert pizzas.

Yuck : corn, egg, anchovies or any fish for that matter, broccoli, sliced tomato

On the line for me: brie cheese with cranberry, chicken, sausage, spinach, cream based. Breakfast pizza

Round meatballs fall off the slice and how do you expect to fold your slice if there's a ball on it? And you're the serious one? A big ol' meatball sitting on top. Please. That's not hilarious, it's ridiculous.

Wait... you're right, round meatballs on pizza are much more hilarious. I should try that sometime.

If I can't get it by the slice then I have serious concerns about the establishment.

If they think square cut is the proper manner to slice the pizza.... Well they are just wrong . Turn and run.

A slice of plain cheese will tell you just how good they are. In my opinion it is the best way to judge those three keystone ingredients and how well they cook the crust.

Goto combo is Pep/mush/sausage. Rabbit pellet sausage always scares me. Loose crumbled is fine, but my favorite is a good link that has sliced thinnly length wise and gets a touch crisp on those edges. Local place here makes their sausage in house and it is great-sadly their pizza is square cut cardboard. (So I always get the sausage sandwich when we order there)

I most of the time make 4 pies, cause the dough recipe makes 4 round balls. They are all different ingredients so we do the Milwaukee Slice (square cut), that way we get a taste of each.

You can cut a circle into 8, 16, 32! triangle wedges and still get a taste of each. Plus a piece of crust to enjoy and keep their fingers sauce/grease -free. That's not a knock on the St. Louis slice (square cut). Merely that the taste of each isn't a knock on the classic triangle cut.

^^^ You are so right. I taught my daughter fractions using pizza. She didn't get it with sockets or combo wrenches. After a light went on I could see she got it, then she said too bad we don't have a pie to make sure I get it.

@mac_1103 My wife can do the exact same thing. I love to cook but that ability of hers makes me jealous. She had one fork full of my Shrimp & Grits at the Omni Hotel restaurant in Amelia Island, came home and recreated it exact from scratch. Now it's our go to recipe for Shrimp & Grits.

anyone can do whatever they want with pizza, I don't care.

My personal favourite is spicy salami, blue cheese and pineapple

I’ve thought on this for two days now and I think I’ve formed an opinion. Good dough and good sauce are simply a delivery method for well incorporated, harmonious ingredients. Thus, if it’s broccoli or bleu cheese or balsamic glaze or pineapples (not necessarily on the same pie), let ‘er rip! NOTHING is a “fake” pizza topping!

All joking aside (clearly the pumpkin post was bs) I agree that good dough and good sauce play an important role, I am not a picky eater but I do enjoy properly prepared food. For pizza toppings I prefer pepperoni, sweet pepper, mushroom, and onion. Not necessarily on the same pie. Proper sausage (sliced with good spice to it) is good. Those i consider real toppings... But hell I'll even do pineapple. I'd like to say that I have a go to pizza topping or toppings, but that's like trying to choose a favorite beer, not gonna happen. I bought some anchovies a little bit ago that I've been wanting to try, so we'll see how that goes. I've had the weird stuff too, like bbq chicken pizza, meh, a big mac pizza, that was different, cauliflower crust pizza with artichoke and prosciutto, surprisingly decent. I had a rosemary mushroom truffle flatbread thing (felt hipster but whatever) at one of my favorite local breweries, it was OK but that was the first time I picked a topping off a pizza, a full blown sprig of rosemary baked into the pizza, way to overbearing.

My pizza is what I guess you call 'garbage pizza' as it doesn't follow any rules at all - but everyone loves it.
I guess it's fake though... 😋

Mine is:
Homemade dough with a three-day cold rise in the refrigerator
Homemade pizza sauce made with tomato sauce from my garden tomatoes
Then topped with:
Pepperoni
Hot Italian Sausage
Smoked Ham
Red and Green Bell Pepper
Onion
Mushrooms
Ripe Olives
A mixture of grated Mozzarella, Provolone, and Parmesan cheese
