I can't believe I'm writing this.

I pitched a Wyeast 1272 smack pack into a 1 liter starter earlier tonight, and after an hour or so I chanced to look in the open yeast pouch and noticed that there was a little moistness in there. The dregs of the yeast, basically. I started berating myself, upset that I had missed the opportunity to pitch *every cell* into my starter and have a perfect fermentation.

RDWHAHB...correct?

dude...have 3 or 4 hbs. those you pitched will more than take care of you. starters are insurance. you have it. relax and drink. i really like 1272.

Yeah, relax.

Look at the numbers. An average ABV batch needs X,000,000 number of cells for correct pitch quantity, and you didnt get, what?, 20,000 extra cells in there? By the time the rest of your yeast has an orgy in your starter, reproduce, and then are pitched into your fermentor, those 20,000 cells wont be missed.

*Disclaimer: I made up my numbers. You get the point.

Everything will be fine as long as those weren't the Alpha male cells you left behind ;)
