Well, no duh. If he has a problem, like getting the scroll cage off or something, I might have some tips and tricks.

First it was a seized/cross threaded screw on the blower housing that broke in half. Then the new motor had screws holding the ends together (don't know the technical term for them) that were too long and caused the scroll cage to rub against them. Trimmed them down and the scroll cage still wont fit too far down on the motor shaft causing the cage to rub against the housing. Thought I fixed that by adjusting the motor straps to give a little more room, reinstalled the motor housing and it was still rubbing. Now somehow the housing won't come out of the unit. I feel like I'm too far in to call someone, but seriously **** this thing.

note to self: considering replacing furnace before attempting to sell the house. no potential buyer wants to walk into your home and see that Frankenstein is what keeps your house warm

who knew HVAC talk was so damn sexy?

Speaking of HVAC I need about 625 CFM to handle my brewing rig based on BTU/hr/30.

I have easy access to a 4" sheet metal dryer exhaust pipe. Can I tap into this or do I need to upgrade to 6" or 8"? This exhaust runs out through the brick facing on the front of the house which I would rather not have to **** with.

Looking to run a Vortex S-600 or S-800 fan.

Edit: It will be a very short run from the fan to outside. I can mount the blower almost directly on the opposite side of the wall from the outside.

It won't come back out of the unit? Pull harder.

From what I see, the s-600 is 347 CFM. A 4" duct should hold 395 CFM. It looks to have a 6" connection on the end, so you would need a 6-4" reducer to connect to the dryer vent(I'll assume that's what it is). Does the vent have any bends or just a strait shot? That, along with a reducer will take away btu's. Assuming that isn't much of a big deal, I'd say you can rig it up and it would still push enough air since it's a short run, but it also wouldn't hurt to just run a 6"(especially If you need 625) and really shouldn't be all that hard as long as there isn't anything blocking you from doing so.

Thanks for the info!

625 is optimal, can get away with 1/2 of that. The dryer vent is a straight shot to outside, I will need a T to connect the hood into that same line. The the only challenge to running 6-8" is having to widen the hole through the brick masonry on the outside of our town home. I guess I just need to bite the bullet and go for 6", will be easier on me in the long run than trying to make 4" work and having to re-do everything a second time.

4" dryer line -> 4-6" reducer 6" T -> S-600 -> 6" round metal duct -> 6" through wall vent

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense why it's not coming out. Tweaked it around a bit and it's no longer scrapping on the housing, but I wired it up this morning and it still doesn't run... so either the control board is messed up and I screwed up something. I think I'm doing fussing with it though. :(

In a fit of rage, I destroyed the panel and reset button on my furnace (around this time last year.) When the repairman came out to look at it, he got a good belly laugh.

I still feel proud and shameful of that.

Is there a fuse on the board? Could have popped when you tried to start it.

So the FBI raided and arrested a 19 year old who was in cahoots with ISIS.

This happened yesterday, a block from where I work and a building I walk past every day.

Details are sketchy but it sounds like he was spreading propaganda and communicating with "would be ISIL fighters." He operated 57 extremist twitter accounts. The feds confiscated high capacity gun magazines, ammunition and a modified kitchen knife (whatever that means?) This dude was involved with facilitating travel planning for individuals going to/from Syria.

Neighbors claimed an older couple lived in the house and they knew nothing about a 19 year old also being there.

I still cant process all this, it gives me the heebee geebees.

Whoa.

Sounds really vague. Honestly more like a wannabe than anything -- mostly because of this:

The feds confiscated high capacity gun magazines, ammunition and a modified kitchen knife

All legal things for a 19yr old to own (assuming proper permitting for mags/ammo) and a "modified" kitchen knife? I laughed a little bit...what does it do shoot depleted uranium rounds out of the handle?? The 57 Twitter accounts just screams "prospect-less kid who got picked on at school/junior college and needs internet friends to impress".

Still, a good wake up call for anyone who doesn't believe stuff like this is real and happening around you every day. Stay safe pls.

That looks less lethal than my un-modified kitchen knives. People get shot in Chicago all the time. I've heard gun shots from my house once at night. Another time a buddy and I were cutting down a tree in his front yard during the middle of the day and someone started shooting right down the street. It makes it hard to worry about one-off extremist-inspired events.

I consider myself to be pretty liberal and all, but Jesus ***** ******* Christ, how does the ******* government not pick up on more of these idiots if they're operating under enough wiggle room where a 19 year old kid can do this much before he's caught?

Usually they'll avoid picking him up for as long as possible once they know who he is. That way they can track anyone he works with, see who else is involved, and otherwise collect Intel.

On another note: fuuuck that's creepy!!!
