It's been a little bit since I stopped by, but I've never really waited too long there. Just go on a Sunday after release day and if there are leftover cans you can snag some with little wait or they'll have sold out and you can have a draft/get growlers with no hassle.

But the real answer is that you should just go to Threes.

Will do. Never been to New York and will be hanging with the kid while the wife is working, so we will venture out to Brooklyn.

My parents are heading to New York next weekend and I told them to hit up OH but just avoid any sort of can release.

I don't want to make any assumptions about your parents, but if either/both of them are interested in beer and just want to try some Other Half stuff, they can walk into most any half decent beer bar in Manhattan and save themselves the long trip to an otherwise not very exciting (or good-smelling) part of Brooklyn. If you let us know whereabout they are staying, I'm sure any number of people in this thread can suggest a handful of much more easily accessible places.

But if they're down to head out to Brooklyn and visit OH, just tell them to make sure they don't park in the McDonald's lot, and to be discreet if they're going to share bottles in line.

My parents are really into beer and prefer going to breweries over bars. They’re very much up for whatever.

Well, if they're going to be near Other Half, they might also want to walk over to Folksbier (its just a few minutes away by foot, and has a really nice, laid back little tasting room with some snacks and things to pick at), and/or Threes (a further walk, but a really awesome place to drink and eat; in addition to their own beers being awesome they also generally have some really outstanding beers from other breweries available on tap and to go).

It's a DIPA, Lenny!

But yeah, agreed...
DIPA CHIPS?

The hot new insta-way to generate hype: make "tribute beers" named another another brewer, and release a teku glass with that brewer's image on it:

You are guaranteed to send the fanboys of that particular brewery into a tizzy, in addition to your own.

They should have done a tribute to Esther...

At least they drew a flattering picture of him...

I'm actually kind of surprised nobody has thought to use potatoes as an adjunct yet. You could use Summit hops and smoke it to make a legit baked potato beer.
Allagash added sweet potato to their 2009 Fluxus (Inb4 **** dude you're old). It was an awesome beer. Usually bug my friend who works there about brewing it again.

RE: brewery collabs - we're starting to see that up here more. Mast did 1 or 2 with Night Shift (of the "who cares" variety). Barreled Souls did a barleywine collab with Aslin which was ******* legit. But we will likely get our true look at brohype coming up soon. The Veil is doing a shared taptakover with Bissell next week; can only assume they will brew while up here.

It’s like some sort of M.C. Escher documentary on sadness. I think I counted 7 left turns on a row, what the hell is going on?
Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering if this is more like a tailgate party where its just as fun to be outside the event while drinking beers and shooting the ****. After 6 hours of waiting, I'm guessing your are fairly well drunk twice over when you incoherently give your can order.

And like most things the majority of people are looking at their phone while doing it.

But I also think part of the appeal is to do in-person trades.

let's not kid ourselves... part of the appeal is getting drunk in public at 7am and not being a total bindle carrying hobo in doing so.

BUT IT'S A HOBBY, NOT A LIFESTYLE

Another day, another stupid article about how IPAs suck.

http://www.sfexaminer.com/stop-pretending-like-ipas/

It's pretty funny that the IPA market as a whole has largely buried the "bitterness" argument for IPAs and instead moved on to "hazy vs not hazy," while douches like this are somehow still stuck in the Arrogant Bastard era.

Honestly, I wouldn't be able to tell you the bitterest IPA I've had recently.

Couldn't even make it past that ******'s byline. Whatever he has to say is completely invalidated by that.

So, this guy found his annoying journal entry from 2009 and, pressed to meet his deadline, submitted it to his editor who only drinks wine? I can think of no other explanation for this.

It is a share of hypewhalezcans while waiting for hypewhalezcans. Not joking.

The same crew is also on line together super early every week.

And yeah, they're all banged up by the time the doors open.

(I have never been at an OH release, but I get all the stories/photos/etc from the people who do. Suckers. I'll sit at home drinking my Greenpoint, thank you. Crap, I may have said too much.)
