Tawd on the BA thread about the RateBeer/ABI deal:

"Bottom-line: We don't bend over backwards or compromise our integrity for advertising dollars."

Remind me again, about how you won't allow discussion of mead/cider/non-beer products but you will run ads for them in BA magazine? I guess that's not compromising your integrity?

I'm surprised there is even a thread on there about RateBeer, since usually anything non-BA related is nuked.

God forbid you reference lambic.info or something.......

I was actually thinking about that too. It used to be the case that any discussion of anything related to RateBeer was banned (there were threads deleted about various RB-related topics regularly) and the site name itself was filtered out by a censor for a while. But of course they have no problem pushing a news item with a discussion where the prevailing sentiment towards RateBeer is almost entirely negative.

Jason (Tweedledee) just said this

I find it interesting to see a handful of RateBeer users trying to defend the move Joe T. made while crapping on breweries that no longer want to be a part of their site. Just an observation ...

their magazine, as i recall it, is 32 pages long and 28 of those are ads.

"I have another theory - just me speculating here. ABI is out to battle craft beer (the motive/incentive is clear, and its been well documented as to their many methods). One way (another way) to further that effort is to get beer geeks to slow down the word of mouth / hype that helps create demand for craft. So....they tie themselves to RB, knowing that is brand-damaging to RB. Brewers get pissed and stop helping/supporting RB. RB festivals take a hit. RB users get pissed, some of them leave the site. In some way, this could negatively impact the hype around craft, thus furthering ABI’s objectives."

Occam's Razor is apparently a foreign concept to some of the users of RateBeer.

That was the reason I got banned originally. For referencing some bottling dates to a person looking for their birthday lambic.

No they get it, not a foreign concept, this has been discussed in their forums. And, their forums have devolved into quite a mess of shouting and name calling. Good to get away from it all.

On one hand JBIV's "tight-pants-phone-bulge" Game is strong. On the other hand does he grow the hair long because he can't grow a proper brewer beard? Bro, you're a brewer! A beard is prerequisite!

Fremont is jumping on the **** Rate Beer bandwagon, too. Not surprising, the owner hates AB/InBev.

Can someone let me know when it's okay and when it's not okay to be mad at AB? This is all getting quite confusing.

When you're at a concert and your choices are Goose Island IPA, Budweiser, Bud Light and Stella Artois be mad.

When you're in line for BCBS and you can get your full allotment you're golden.

Hopefully you are right about the hype around craft beer dying down, because it really is getting cumbersome/situation not improving in some aspects.

Not really sure what thread to put this in. Several of you have undoubtedly heard about it already, and I'm sure it's hitting some of our Atlanta contingent hard.

Many of you are no doubt familiar with the brewery-in-planning MAZURT from Atlanta, which was poured for the past few years at Hunahpu Day (and I'm sure other events too) and has been a fan favorite every year. One of the guys behind MAZURT, Dan Rosen, tragically passed away yesterday after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident early in the morning. I only met Dan in person once, at this year's Huna weekend, although we had talked online periodically and I knew of him well from some mutual friends. In my limited interactions with him I found him to be incredibly friendly, generous, and excited about beer.

Condolences to his friends and family, and his passing is a loss for the beer community as a whole.

I swear to god Evil Twin people are getting sick of the dumb **** you do. James beer? Olive and Strawberry Berliner. Why? Why the **** do you think any beer needs olives in it.

Goddamnit it sounds awful. I'm sure some neckbeard has bullshited "I could really taste the olives. Their brininess paired well with the strawberries' sweetness. Would drink more olive beers" already. Or the standard "Good beer, don't taste any olives. 5/5"

Honestly I can't even remember the last time i bought an Evil Twin beer, the awful prices are enough to keep me away.

I have a feeling that once they get their NYC brewery and tasting room open you're gonna see some especially stupid, overpriced nonsense. So get your camping chairs ready.

Or (fingers crossed), he could rip off his brother and open a brewery that actually makes some really good beer.
