Another point: often brewers/breweries have a hard time getting anything in the way of feedback that is both honest and carries some degree of authority that they respect. A small local place with a loyal group of local fans is probably going to get a lot of "yeah you're right, these beers really are the best examples of their style!" feedback. So what other options are there?

Got one as an extra. Same caliber as Kirkland and Trader Joe's pale ales.

-Not medalling at GABF/WBC/etc can be brushed off with all sorts of justifications: too random, so many entries, judges were probably palate shot, BJCP standards don't matter, etc. And there's obviously plenty of truth to all of those, even if they don't actually happen to apply.

-There's no one that really qualifies as a "beer rating expert" the way there are for wine. Well, unless you count The Bros. :p

-Crowdsourced data is probably the best we've got in spite of all its flaws, so maybe that's why breweries get so worked up over Untappd/BA/RB ratings. A critical mass of hundreds or thousands of reviews from non-local drinkers has plenty of flaws but is better than any alternative I can think of.

If you are clever you can work out flaws from untappd reviews based on the people. If 30 people say "amazing" 20 people say "eh", 10 say "really good pale, caramel flavours" and 2 say "butter", then you've got massive problems.

Unfortunately I see a lot of brewers discount the bottom segment as outliers/idiots and focus on the top 30 or so as the real feedback.

**** happens. I got scammed. I lost money. He's not going to give me my money back. I'm not gonna dox him. There's nothing I can do except remind you guys to be careful because there are some scumbags out there...
I know I'm late to the party here. Did you get the box? Was the glue stuck to the bottle still? They used a small amount of glue to hold the bottle in place in the box?

just returned from trip to said store. No one has bought any of them yet. lol

Glad to see everywhere besides SE MI has a metric ****-ton of this stuff, while the biggest store here got five-seven cases total and apparently had over a hundred people in line this morning for one bottle of regular.

Just for clarification, I did not stand in line for one bottle and will go on the record that those people truly need to revaluate their lives.

Someone at some point was asking me about Royal Oil...and I can't for the life of my remember who. If you read this...

Not sure if you're talking about PMs or forum posts, but I was definitely on a quest to tick Royal Oil for a while. Pretty sure I've mentioned it here at some point.

That's the problem, I can't remember, I searched my PMs and nothing came up, but possible it got deleted. I can snag you a bottle or two if you want (unless there's some crazy limits on stuff but Bull & Bush doesn't roll like that). Should be on sale next week :D

Do these hang out on draft for a while? I'll be in Seattle in a month.

On tap might be tough then, but bottles will be possible. Places like pear delicatessen near pike place or central market in shoreline never sell out.

Thanks dude! Will definitely take you up on that if you end up with any spare bottles, but certainly no pressure. I did a site search of "Royal Oil" and found my ISO from early last year: http://www.talkbeer.com/community/t...eclipse-gm-cr-more-iso-list.8715/#post-230113

A few others folks have apparently been ISO at one point or another as well (including dontdrinkbeer).

Opened a recent bottling of Arthur. Absolute gusher. Gushers = infection? Whatever it was, it wasn't much worth drinking.

Yes, I got the box and the glue was still on the bottle.

opened the recent Arthur this weekend too.
no gushing... tasted great

I should say, I assume it was a recent bottling. Buddy sent it over w/ one of the recent bottlings of Earl, but there's no date on the Arthur, so I suppose he could've sent an older one. I'll have to email him/ask.

I've had good bottles of Arthur in the past, but this one...naw.
