You sound like someone who has never been to Pastrytown.

Gotta make a fest that'll make my jeans tight on me
Fest to keep me eatin'
Keep me drinkin' with some paste-ery

Well, I talk about it, text about it
Post about it, talk about it
Talk about, text about
Post about drinkin'

Not a Saison
Get my drink on
Is my Lipitor gone?

Won't you take me to

Going to the Florida Keys next month, anyone know some good retail spots either in the Keys or in Miami? I might try to hit MIA or J Wakefield for cans before we drive down to then Keys but looking for other options in case that doesn't pan out.

Where in the Keys?

The new Publix in Islamorada has a great selection. I’d say the best in the Keys now.

Miami area I’d say ABC Liquors, Total Wine, or Whole Foods. Publix really depends on the store as to how wide the selection is.

We haven't finalized the plan but we'll at least pass through Islamorada. I'll check it out.

Just pick up stuff before you get to Key West if you’re going down there. Florida Keys Brewing in Key Largo and Waterfront Brewing in Key West are the only breweries I’d recommend. They both fill growlers too. I don’t know of any good package stores past Islamorada.

ABC or Publix have great selections if you wanna grab a quick case of something but I like Boxelder for mixing and matching a ton of weird singles.

There is a little cigar/beer bar on Duval street. It is across the street from a strip club, towards the end off all the action. I think it was called Cork and Stogie. I remember sitting on the front porch with a nice beer and cigar, as the women across the street were trying to entice everyone walking by. It made for some great people watching and a nice relaxing night. The beer list was decent probably the best I found in Key West.

Fat pie expert here. Islamorada Fish Co, that ****** chain in all the Bass Pro shops? The original is worth stopping at and has the best Key Lime Pie you will encounter in all of the keys (possibly all of FL).

Matthessens in Key West is pretty great, too, but I prefer to go there for cookies the size of your face. Those cookies are totally worth writing home about, I have asked people going to the keys to bring me back cookies, do not skip that.

Lastly, if you want to see key deer, make a plan to go to the No Name Pub on Big Pine. You cannot possibly make it there without encountering key deer. Food is pretty great pub food. Beer is soso.

The Florida beer scene has changed a ton since I last visited the keys (Cigar City was still in Ybor), so I am no help with your actual question.

Enjoy your trip!

That’s The Porch and unfortunately they closed in September 2018.

Yeah that was a good place. I was kinda crushed.

Key lime pie used to be my favorite pie (recently supplanted by French Silk), and I was disappointed to find out how much ******, fake key lime pie there is in the keys (avoid, at all costs the Key West Key Lime Pie co - it's ******, frozen electric green garbage). We have taken trips down there twice. I had wanted to do the Dry Tortugas last trip, but my dad was just about to have back surgery and wasn't able to do the day trip so we hung out at our rental a bunch and just fished below the house. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Possibly the best fish sandwich too with normally 3 different fish selections.

My only complaint is it’s a bit expensive but otherwise it’s way more legit than the locations found in Outdoor World (which I ate at once in San Antonio to compare).

I have been two or three times. The pie is still good, but it comes in a bowl instead of with that pistachio crust that really makes it at the original. The filling is still really good, and worth a visit if you have a hankering for real key lime pie, but I usually just get off my duff and make the recipe from the Margaritaville cook book (laugh at my owning a Jimmy Buffett cook book, go ahead, but it is a great ******* recipe).

That’s not The Porch. Cork & Stogie is correct. Fun spot across from a strip club down away from the action. Really nice draft list when I visited. The Porch was also great and is down near Sloppy Joseph’s but is now closed as you said (since Sept). Bummer.
